Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS) - AMA

in #ama10 years ago

I went through this back in January of 2003. Have any questions about it? Ask away! I'll answer whatever I can to the best of my ability. There really wasn't anything specifically in this course that is considered sensitive that couldn't be found open source already.

The Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC) or, informally, the Q Course is the initial formal training program for entry into the United States Army Special Forces. Phase I of the Q Course is Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS).[1] Getting "Selected" at SFAS will enable a candidate to continue to the next of the four phases. If a candidate successfully completes all phases he will graduate as a Special Forces qualified soldier and then, generally, be assigned to a 12-man Operational Detachment "A" (ODA), commonly known as an "A team." The length of the Q Course changes depending on the applicant's primary job field within Special Forces and their assigned foreign language capability but will usually last between 56 and 95 weeks.

My nephew is getting ready to deploy to the Airforce. I think his goal is something called "SEARS" or something like that. It has to do with search and rescue. His Dad was a US Marine, so we are glad he didn't go that route. I mean it is and they are a special unit of the armed forces, but it's not for my nephew. My brother handled it well, and all the Marine friends I ever had are some of the realest people I have ever known.

Ah yea.. There is a position in the Air Force for SERE instructors. There are different severity / training levels for SERE. The only one I'm personally familiar with is SERE-C which is (for the most part) required for special operations and aviation pilots.

Fighting for your country is a noble deeds that only few managed to do so.
