Changwon Express: Funky Korean Tapas & Craft Beer:
If Kimchi Tacos and Bulgogi Hot Dogs sound like your thing, then you will love this quirky little Bangkok bar. Add to that a selection of local and imported craft beers, and you have a winner.
CHANGWON EXPRESS
I'd been hearing good things about a new hole-in-the-wall joint which had opened up, serving "interesting" Korean food and good craft beers at a cheap price. The problem was it was on the other side of town from me, and trekking across Bangkok in peak hour. Anyway, last night I bucked up and took the underground subway across town to this fabulous little discovery.
THE FOOD
The food menu is an eclectic mix of Mexican/Korean & American favourites. We tried several of the dishes, all which were excellent. The beef/kimchi tacos were particularly good as you got the tart bite of the kimchi flavour wrapped up in an easy to handle soft tortilla..Outstanding! The more traditional Ramen and Bibimbap were both also very good
THE DRINKS
Craft Beer is still a bit of a treat in Thailand, due to restrictive laws its difficult to find and often expensive. Changwon had a decent selection of 9 beers on tap. We managed to get through 5 of them before realising it was a school night and we both had
to work the next day. The White IPA and the Weizz were our favourites from the evening.
THE RESTAURANT
The restaurant is nothing fancy and not very big. I think with 25 people in there it would be full. Simple stools and low tables and a few seats at the bar. While we were there it was full, attracting a good mix of Locals and expats on their way home after work. The staff were friendly and the place had a good vibe. They were doing everything right.
THE VERDICT
This is a great little bar/restaurant if you are near the Ratchada/Petchaburi part of Bangkok. Drop in and have some food and a drink you won't be disappointed.

I used to like drink a glass of beer once a month, for healthy reason. Now I do not drink beer cause tax for beer is so high. :)

I live in Indonesia, the reason our goverment to raise tax for beer because many criminal action related with beer. Many drunken teenage commit criminal act after drunk a couple bottle beer. One year ago many sex abuse occured, police investigated that many sex abuse case related with people especially teenage get drunk when do that. :)
Happyphoenix, I have been to Bali a few times and know that wine is expensive, but I thought the beer prices were ok.
Ha..ha.. Yes, that okay but Rp. 57.000,- / bottle too expensive for me. :) last year at my town, local goverment issued regulation ban for beer. Perfect...ha..ha
