Ayuthaya - Former Capital of Siam & UNESCO World Heritage Site.

in #travel7 years ago

The city of Ayuthaya is about an hour's drive from the current capital of Bangkok. It was founded by King Ramathibodi I in 1351 and was subsequently captured by the Burmese in 1569. Although it was not completely pillaged, it lost many valuable and artistic objects. Ayuthaya remained the capital of Siam until its destruction by the Burmese army in 1767.

In 1969 the Fine Arts Department began with renovations of the ruins, which became more serious after it was declared a historical park in 1976. It was also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. Here are some of my amateur pics of Ayuthaya. It was an overcast day, and these were taken with my pocket digital camera.

Please note, that I originally shared these pictures on steemit 7 months ago, and nearly nobody saw them, so I thought it would be ok to resteem now, as long as I mentioned it. I also steemed previously about the Summer Palace which is also in the same region. I hope you enjoyed the pictures.
