Premium plans GitLab are free to open source
Following the news that Microsoft has purchased a web service to host IT projects and co-develop them with GitHub, the competing GitLab platform has announced that its premium plans are now available for open source projects on a free basis. This writes TechCrunch.
This offer also applies to educational institutions.
Thus, GitLab intends to attract even more developers who have started to migrate from GitHub to other platforms.
In particular, the company has made two usually paid plans for open source projects free of charge: Ultimate and Gold.
"Most educational and open source projects do not have access to enhanced security or performance management tools. In Networks we are happy that we reached the level of success that allows us to offer these important community the full feature set and make plans for them Ultimate and free Gold," said CEO Networks Led Sybrandy.
The company also reported that after the sale of GitHub was confirmed, more than 100 thousand new repositories were opened on the platform. Most new users have tested the free but limited Core plan, which includes a set of all the basic features, but is hardly suitable for really large projects.
Ultimate and Gold plans in turn cost $99 per month per user and offer the widest range of features, but do not include support. This option can be purchased for $4.95 per month.
As mentioned earlier ForkLog deal on the purchase of GitHub was subjected to sharp criticism from the bitcoin community. So, one of the leading developers of Bitcoin Core Vladimir van der Laan agreed with the idea that the bitcoin repository should also be migrated to another platform.
