What Yee Sang is all about

When I first came to Kuala Lumpur (from the other side of Malaysia) and settled here. I was induldge into many new "culture" which were very new to me. When I celebrated my first Chinese New Year here in Kuala Lumpur, I kept hearing about Yee Sang which I had NO idea about.

However after year on year I started to get used to this strange act of food tossing and its now part of what me and my family does every Chinese New Year.

So what is Yee Sang ?

Its actually a dish which is actually a Chinese style salad which normally includes raw fish, normally we use salmon. The salad would also include a variety of color, so you would have a variety of vegetables and various sauce ( eg. plum sauce , or some sweet sauce ) and condiments.

What happens is you put it all in a plate and use chopsticks to start tossing it up while wishing prosperity, luck, great health to everyone who is tossing with you.

Its normally done as an appetizer and it does make the table extremly messy however its great fun and by the end we normally ended with just a small bite of the Yee Sang as most of it ends up on the table.
