A Steemit Promo for my Facebook friends
If you're already on Steemit, this article isn't necessarily for you. I've gone ahead and put this together for my friends so that they can get signed up to this platform. I can link them to a handful of great articles written by other users, but I want them to also be able to get an understanding of what Steemit is by someone they know. It is also a way of showing how my facebook post will generate zero, while this post will generate more than zero.
A Quick Rundown of what Steemit is
Steemit is a social media platform backed by blockchain technology (just like bitcoin) that allows authors to monetize their content in the form of a cryptocurrency called STEEM. I've written this out to best explain, in my words, what it means to be a Steemian.
Steemit Etiquette
There is a specific etiquette that you are expected to follow if you want to truly benefit on Steemit, which is to be original. While sharing a meme that is already trending on facebook could be frowned upon, using it in context with a unique joke that you thought up and sourcing it could be accepted, however, it's places like steemit where the best memes are born, so if you're good at making memes, steemit is for you too.
You post original content that is your own. When you upvote other peoples original work that you like, you are also given curation rewards. This means that you are paid a portion of what a post generates that you've upvoted.
Steemit is for everyone. Everyone should at least sign-up. After all it's free!
I started writing articles on my bitcoin website years ago and quickly gave up because let's face it -- the competition was too great. I needed to invest in advertisement using tools like Google AdSense. It made it nearly impossible for me to monetize content. Then I found Steemit and I've been posting on Steemit for about 100 days now. It hasn't exactly been easy, but I've plugged away quite a few hours and have generated a total of $1000 worth of STEEM sharing pictures of what I like, sharing dreams, sharing pictures of agates that I find along the shores of lake superior, and sharing my thoughts whether with a post or as a comment to someone else's post.
You don't have to make a single post to make money
All you really have to do is engage. There are people that have never made a post, but they comment on other peoples posts, and they make good money doing it!
The Three Steemit Currencies
STEEM
STEEM is the primary currency of the system that is easily exchangeable for other cryptocurrencies via an exchange such as Bittrex. Steem is subject to inflationary losses because it's supply increases 100% per year. The best thing to do with STEEM is to power it up. (Convert to STEEM POWER)
STEEM POWER, also known as VESTS
Everyone can vote on posts, but depending on how much STEEM POWER you have, depends on how much money your particular upvote is worth. Upvoting is the same as liking a post. It's vested interest in the company. Steem Power is also known as VESTS. The more you have, the more stake you have as a shareholder.
Steem Backed Dollars
Steem Backed Dollars (SBD) are tokens that are designed to represent about $1 USD. You can spend these within the platform by sending to other users. You are also able to convert them into STEEM so that you can power up, as well as send them to a cryptocurrency exchange and trade them for bitcoins.
Earnings
The way you are rewarded is chosen by you. You can choose to get paid in 100% Steem Power (So all your rewards are immediately invested) or get a 50/50 payout. This gives you 50% of your rewards in the form of Steem Backed Dollars.
Why is it important to sign up to Steemit?
This is a revolutionary concept that just like bitcoin, isn't going anywhere. It's free so what do you have to lose? The potential of financial freedom that Steemit can bring to you and those you love is like no other. I am telling you now because I don't want to sit here 2 years ago saying "I told you so!"
I see many of my friends and family sharing pictures and content on facebook that are worth so much more than nothing. This is your calling... it's your time. Step into crypto and join Steemit! You will thank me later.
