Today we feature the very talented Rachel SV Parry, The first steemian to be featured on the spotlight

A little about the artist

Rachel SV Parry has been a visual artist since late 2012, located in Toronto. Her style reflects diverse and eccentric interests, from comedy to science to mental health to aesthetic and even to political. She feels as a creator of imagery, her job is to evoke the thoughts and feelings of her audience, and so she is inspired by the full gamut of human interest to create mostly pop surrealist artword.

Message from artist

This piece is called "The ET Wedding". It's from my old masters parody series called 'Old Remasters', wherein I repainted famous artworks with pop culture twists. This one was by Jan Van Eyck, called 'The Arnolfini Wedding'. Many famous paintings are so because of a pre-existing controversy, this one being the question of whether or not the bride is already expecting a child, during a time when premarital sex was extremely scandalous, especially amongst nobles. The only detail I changed was to switch the face of the groom to that of the beloved ET, the Extraterrestrial from the famous 80's movie. The thought of ET poking a finger at a pregnant belly insinuating that "He'll be right there" made me laugh so hard that I'm still really proud of this piece, a couple years after making it.
