Lesson #02 law of mass action and derivation of the expression for the equilibrium constant
Law of mass action
chemists generally express the composition of equilibrium mixture in the terms of numerical values. These values relate the amount of products to reactant at equilibrium. These values can be determined by using a relationship known as " The law of mass action".
Chemists proposed the law of mass action to describe the equilibrium state.
- C.M Guldberg
- P.Waage
Direct relation
It state that the rate at whaich a substance reacts is directly proportional to its active mass andthe rate at which the reaction proceeds is directly to the product of active masses of the reactant.
Active mass
the term ''active mass" represents the concentration of reactant s and produvts in mol.per dm cube for a dilute solution, and is expressed in term of square brackets [].
