Small Creators Suffering for one Big Creator's Stupidity
Barely been monetizing on YouTube for a few months, and as a small channel I've not seen my first check. Now monetization is being removed from small creators like me, and I bet it's all thanks to Logan Paul.
For those of you who don't know, Logan Paul is one of the major YouTubers and he recently filmed a video in Japan's suicide forest, filming and mocking a dead person, not to mention all the illegal things he did in the cities of Japan. Due to his recent activity on the platform, YouTube released statements that they would work on not allowing such things to happen again.
This is not what they're doing. Instead, the small creators are going to suffer for it.
Well, I can still create videos and do what I love to do and grow my community with fellow gamers and such, but the new threshold for monetization is one I don't know if I will achieve before the due date if I want to keep monetization.
YouTube doesn't send a check until you hit $100 USD. I made approximately $10 so far, so I will lose that, but I don't care much about that, it's a detail.
Monetization used to be allocated to creators who had a total of 10K views on their channel. Now we also need 1000 subscribers, and 4000 hours in watch time for the last 12 months.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. My channel is just not going to make any money, so whatever. It's slowly growing and I keep putting out content for the people who love my videos. I do it because I love doing it, because it entertains them, and because I am building an audience of people who will eventually follow me here on Steemit, buy my future book, subscribe to my website, donate and such, and I can benefit despite monetization being removed, because let's face it, I wasn't going to see that first check any time soon anyway.
But it still sucks that a big YouTuber does something stupid, and then the small creators suffer for it. At least that dude was removed from YouTube's white list. Their changes are NOT helping the platform though and it's not encouraging small creators either. It's showing us that the big kids who are part of the Elite are getting away with things and YouTube is creating an illusion of cracking down, when in reality they are putting in more control over its creators.
What are your thoughts?
Nic post
Thanks. So what's your take on the situation?
