Narayana Murthy has been chosen in 2003 the World Entrepreneur of the Year, the best entrepreneur in the world if you will. He is a self-made billionaire and founder of Infosys, the world's largest software company. Some time ago I met and interviewed him in Delhi for my book. In this video I talk from Bangalore, India about my impressions after the interview and explain what I admire him for.

Several years ago I went to India in order to interview one of the very best entrepreneurs in the world - mr. Narayana Murthy

Mr. Murthy was chosen the world entrepreneur of the year 2003 and Fortune named him one of the 12 global leaders in the world

So, one of the 12 most important entrepreneurs in our times.

After the interview I recorder my thoughts about the interview about him and I would like to show you these thougts, this recording

Please excuse me the low quality of that video but I didn't have any experience with shooting videos with voice recording

So, you will have to deal with that quality but I think the content is worthwhile. Let's watch it together.

Hello everybody. I just had an interview with mr. Narayana Murthy, a self made billionaire in Delhi, India

He is one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our times, if you're reading what Fortune magazine writes.

And was chosen Entrepreneur of the Year 2003 globally by Ernst & Young

And he also won the Philanthropist of the Year award in the asian awards

I just want to save my impressions after the interview on this meta level, what happened and what are my thoughts about the interview

I don't know if you have been to India before and if you have seen the life of people live here and what conditions they have to exist

What conditions they have to deal with but I can tell you, this is a very, very poor country

Poverty everywhere and it is just shocking for a western citizen to see all that poverty and I just came back from a tour of Infosys campus

One of the world software giants, the company built by mr. Murthy which is worth 30 billion dollars

And this magnificent campus, the futuristic campus is just overwelhelming, this is like another planet

Extreme contrast between this campus and the indian reality

And this guy built this company over I think 30 years with $ 250 which he borrowed from his wife

And coming from very, extremely simple conditions and the difficulties... can you imagine to do a bussines without a phone?

Because of the bureaucratic restrictions and the lack of infrastructure he needed one year to get a phone for his company

It was a software company and they had to do business 2 years long without the computer because they were not able to import the computer

Because of the restrictions. And if not for the restrictions, they just didn't have money for that and they found a way around these difficulties

And we just got a little of taste during our interview, these difficulties were a very simple things. I mean it took us 18 minutes for the interview

And he went in and he went in and tried to switch on the air conditioner. It turned out it doesn't work

So, he called for the maintenance conducting this interview in the Infosys guesthouse

And Infosys, his company, is regarder on of the most perfect companies in India and even there this air conditioner didn't work

And there was 45 degrees Celsius outside the building. It was really hot inside.

And you don't have any motivation to do any physical work in that temperature and certainly not mental work.

The conditioner didn't work and he called for the maintenance and they went in, tried to repair it and you could see they weren't very skillful

They didn't know how to operate that air conditioner. They needed 15 minutes and interrupted several times to fix the air conditioner

So, we were distracted during that time from our interview and the moment they finally managed to fix the air conditioner...

They went out and we continued the interview and after 5-10 minutes there was power shortage, and the air conditioner went out again

So, we just continued without now the conditions they had 30 years ago when India was much, much poorer and there were no infrastructure

There were no atomic plans... with all these restrictions. This was just a business nightmare

And this guy managed, nevertheless, to build such a huge, enormous organization, to build such a value, such wealth.

This is just amazing. And if he could do that with the assets he had or the less things he had, you can do it also!

Look around you, what conditions you live in, what means you can achieve everything you want. So do it! And do it now! Thank you.
