There are a great number of iconic landmarks in Pakistan that represent our culture and heritage. Out of all the places, Faisal Masjid is one of the most famous places that attracts not only thousands of Pakistani but foreigners as well. Personally, I have been there several times with my buddies and I would like to share the details of the world's famous mosque with the Steem community. So, let's dive in:

The Faisal Masjid is the largest mosque in Pakistan. The beautiful mosque was built by a Turkish architect and opened its doors to worshippers in 1986 on the orders of General Muhammad Zia ul Haq. It is an example of Muslim architecture, which is worth seeing for those interested in learning more about Pakistani culture. Faisal Masjid was named after the late King Faisal, and it is located in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital city. It has a prayer capacity of around 80,000 people and can hold up to 10,000 worshippers at one time.

The mosque was built on the National Highway 5, which runs between Rawalpindi and Islamabad. It is surrounded by a small, green park; the main entrance to the mosque lies on the eastern side of the building, which can be accessed via an underground subway system.

The materials used in Faisal Masjid were: marble for floors and walls, Italian glass for windows and chandeliers and special woods for doors and ceilings. The most distinguishing feature of the mosque is its central dome, which is covered with gold plating and lined with semi-precious stones.

The Faisal Masjid contains a library that was built in the memory of King Faisal's late wife, Iffat Alvi. It is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays, while it is closed on Saturday and holidays. It contains more than 60,000 books in Urdu, Arabic, Persian and English. Over 600 people may be comfortably seated in the library.

The official website for Faisal Masjid describes the mosque as a "unique building of international standard, [which] can be approached from both sides by car and public transport." The mosque is open to worshippers every day from 5 a.m. until 11:30 p.m., with two exceptions: it closes for half an hour after every prayer time and remains closed on all Islamic holidays.

The Faisal Masjid has no physical contact with the graves of King Faisal's family. However, it is believed that they are buried in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where King Faisal was born and grew up.
