How often do you carry your camera with you?

The Best Camera is the One You Have With You

Chase Jarvis named his book "The Best Camera is the One You Have With You" but i am sure that the quote is older then that. (and researching i find that many misunderstood the quote as insulting people who ask on forums about what is the best to buy)

My take on this is that if you don't have a camera with you you missed the shot for sure. There are two thing i am trying to improve. If i see something interesting and all i have is the phone i will try to take a photo and i am trying to carry my camera with me as often as i can.

I was driving one day and decided to try to make an interesting road photo. all i had was my YotaPhone (not the best camera on it), it looked ok but nothing special. So next day i decided to take my DSLR with me. So i was driving back and forth and photographing (i know not a smart thing to do, but i just did a burst of shots not really composing :) ).

As i was finishing up the sunset looked nice so i drove out of the town to see could i make some interesting photos. The sunset ended up to be not so great and also the photos, but as i turned to go to my car i saw this

The point for me is, the best camera is the one that you have with you, but you need to carry with you the best camera that you have :) (this shot is not possible with a mobile (probably with some added telephoto lenses))
And ALWAYS look around you, don't be blinded by first thing that you see.

I love photography but I dont have a camera. I only take the photo using my smartphone but the result is not so good. When I saw your post, your photo is absolutely beautiful, brilliant shot. You're very creative. I want to ask you if there any good tips for smartphone photography?

you have to be aware of what can you do with your camera phone. first thing you could learn is the exposure triangle and play with manual options. try Snapseed app, it is free and great for editing photos. If you can shoot RAW and then edit the photo.

Moon lamp is really cool. Type of camera is important, but is not decisive, especially with software these days.

for some things you need dedicated equipment, this moon lamp is not possible with wide lens, but maybe there is photo as good as this in a different perspective of the scene.

The point for me is, the best camera is the one that you have with you

The ultimate truth. The same goes for most of the tools (from the hammer to the gun or car)

You can have the best tool, but without the skills, there will be no results.
Keep developing your skills, and buy the equipment you like, not the one with the best specs and not the one other people considering to be the ultimate.

You like 20$ vintage lenses - go for it
You want to invest 2000$ in L-lenses - great
You feel superpowers with the Leica - save the money for it, go Leica

Simply enjoy the hobby and make something beuatiful and fulfilling

yap, do what you can with what you have on you, sometimes you will be surprised how much is possible when you try hard and give your best.

The tool doesn't matter, what matters are your skills and your eye for photography. And based on this moon-lamp image, you obviously have both.

thanks for the compliment :)

The one with the moon is my favourite but the road looks good too. I am often sad that I do not have a better camera on my phone since there are so many beautiful things all around us all the time :)

I am cursed with buying strange phones that are interesting but camera was not their main point :) previous was asus padfone, now i have yotaphone 2. saw it on sale for like 120$ and did not even think about the camera :)

Great shot love the one with the moon and the lamp post.

You said well that every time you don't carry your camera you risk the shot you could have. You're very talented photographer and this lamp photo is great! I can't wait to buy myself a DSLR and start learning and take photos.

my tip for you, learn the basic on your phone or whatever (learn how you expose an image, what shooterspeed does what iso does ...) then when you get your DSLR you will not be stuck on automatic mode.

I'm learning about that at college, but thanks for the advice.

This is true. The photography is much more than megapixels and sharp as knife photo. There must be a power of meaning on it and of course composition, colors ...

sharpness is overrated (i say to myself every time i miss something :) ) On serious note, just yesterday i was photographing a party and i would always go for emotion then "rules" of the photography.
