Marshmello : Mellogang Isn’t So Mellow After All
On the night of December 13th, Club Déjà vu had a campfire, it had chanting around the campfire, and it had high energy levels. The one thing it did not have – Marshmello!.
I really hope that the club is insured, cause the crowd did show their displeasure quite extensively, breaking light and cooling fixtures, throwing chairs, wrecking the bar and pelting the DJ with bottles. Outside the club, it was a little more rowdy; people were smashing gates and lighting fires. An unknown person decked me in the face and stole the camera when I was filming crowd feedback of the event. All in all, the night wasn’t worth the Rs. 4-5k price tag that it asked for.
The night started pretty well for a disaster. DJ Punit, DJ Rabbit and the gang kept the crowd entertained. The music wasn’t bad, it was good party music. They hyped us all with the obvious question – “Are you guys ready for MARSHMELLO!!!???”, as if Marshmello was right behind the stage, waiting to come on. Everyone was present, from celebrities to old people, and even a child – looking bored from the balcony (are children even allowed in clubs?). Taking a look around though, it was clear that the security was paying minimal attention to the age limit.
As the night went on, it was clear that the DJs were stalling for time. Crowd interaction jumped to a minimum, songs were getting repeated and mixed like there’s no tomorrow. It was as though everyone could feel what was about to come, but no one wanted it to be true. Finally, the music stopped, and the announcement was made. And all hell broke loose.
Message from the organizers.
The DJs tried to put the music back on, but got pelted with bottles for their troubles. Tempers were flaring; mouths were running and then the vandalism began. It started with a fan which made a lot of noise commanding everyone’s attention. I guess that planted the idea, and the floodgates opened. Chairs and tables were thrown all over the place. The bars were smashed, and so were the light and A/C fixtures; all the while people were chanting “Fuck You Déjà vu”. Outside the club, the scenes were no less chaotic. Gates and lights were vandalized, and they even lit a fire in protest. It was around this time that the camera was stolen from me.
All in all, it definitely was a night to remember, but for all the wrong reasons.
