Beer Review - Winter Warmer

Knocking out a seasonal, winter warmer beer tonight. I caught a couple of winter warmer/seasonal beers on my last trip to Helena and Missoula in early March. Here is one of them, from Oregon.

Bridgeport Brewing - Ebenezer Ale

Stats

  • Brewery: Bridgeport Brewing - Portland, OR
  • Alcohol Content: 6.4% by volume
  • IBUs: 32
  • Company Description: Our special Holiday brew, Ebenezer Strong Ale is smooth with a complex palate derived from four different roasted malts and a blend of local and imported hops. Deep mahogany in color, its malty first taste and full body is balanced with a light hop aroma, leading to a caramel finish. It’s a festive elixir that can transform the mood of any scrooge! So forget the eggnog and have a pint of Ebenezer.

Presentation
The beer comes in a 12 oz bottle (or on draught) with a main body label front and back and a neck label. This is a limited release, seasonal beer with some winter/Christmas graphics of old Ebenezer Scrooge on the front and a description of the beer on the back . The neck lable has some Holiday related words.

The Beer

  • Aroma: Malty with some dark spices.
  • Appearance: Deep mahogany with a nice head of foam, which stayed around for a while.
  • Taste/Mouthfeel: A moderately carbonated beer, with a malty taste and a slightly bitter finish from the hops. Hints of caramel on the end.
  • Drinkability: An easy drinking beer for a winter warmer. I found the bottle went down pretty fast and was a decent seasonal beer.

Rating and Final Thoughts

Winter/seasonal beer can be a mix of anything considered "seasonal" spices. This beer was actually pretty good for one of those types. Had some sweetness to it but also a little hoppiness and a slightly bitter finish. I enjoyed it and it went down the pipes pretty well. I rated it a 3.75 on Untappd, where it has and overall rating of 3.46 with nearly 8K ratings. So if you like some winter warmers and see this one, take one for a taste test, I don't think you will be disappointed.

3.75/5

Thanks for the view. This will likely be my #beersaturday post, or at least one of them for Week 44. Go there and upvote it to help me maybe win something one week.

Sounds like a pretty good beer! I always like the winter spiced beers, usually I find that they have a lot more complexity of flavor and are generally pretty darn good.

better than I expected. I got this one at Fresh Market MIssoula in their build a 6 pack section.

That is one of my favorite things about Fresh Market!

Ah, yes, this section can be fun. And dangerous.

It look's like a really good beer for me. Cheers😊

thanks it was better than anticipated which is always a win with beer!

I have found most winter spiced beers to be pretty tasty.

I find there is a lot of variations and some i like and some I don't. this was one of the better ones I have tried.

Not my favorite style, but this actually looks decent. Cheers my friend.

I haven't run across that particular brand yet, although I am in the Spokane area with a lot of microbrew options and specialty beers on tap or in stores. I may have to keep an eye out for their brews.

I just found your post via steemit.chat #beer, so I don't know what else you have tried. Did you ever drink Red Hook Winterhook?

Hi, thanks, you are not too far away, I live in Great Falls, MT. I have had several beers by Bridgeport, they are a decent brewery. No I have not had the Red Hook Winterhook, actually only had one other beer by Red Hook, their porter. I have been posting beer reviews since I started in early January, if you want to see some other ones, you can scan back through my review posts. So is there a pretty good choice there in Spokane? Any go to beer stores that sell singles. We get over there on occasion.
Give me a follow, I am following you now. I post several beer reviews a week.

I post beer reviews very irregularly under the "Amateurish Beer Review" title. When I get to my other computer, I'll try to remember to update my most recent such post with a link list to previous entries.

I recently posted about a visit to Post Falls, Idaho, and I regret not stopping at Enoteca there. In the Spokane Valley there's a Total Wine And More store. And there are microbreweries all over the place in eastern WA and North Idaho, many of which are brew pubs with no real distribution beyond their doors.
