Lava Tube on Moon

Less than a month ago, there was a lave tube that was located on the Moon, and it is speculated that it would be able to house the future astronauts that go there. Due to this find being so recent, the leading scientists have not been able to estimate a creation date on the lunar lava tube, but have plans on how to use it. It was discovered by the Japanese lunar orbiter named SELENE, while it was gathering data from a near by location. There are multiple lunar lava tubes so it is no surprise to find this, but there is one aspect about it that is drawing attention to it.

There are a multitude of dangers just from being on the moon, and researchers are now looking at this lava tube to help provide protection to the astronauts that are exploring the smaller details of the moon, that are unable to be seen by the orbiters. The longest expedition on the moon by person was only around three days, but with this lava tube they might be able to make a small colony and have prolonged trips. This crater is so massive that it is said to be possible to fit multiple cities inside of it. This would in turn defend the astronauts from the solar winds and solar flairs that are threatening to their lives. In addition to that, the moon is subject to many more meteoroids than we had suspected, and that can pose a threat to not only the people on the moon, but the space craft that moves them to and fro.
