Unbelievable that an animal can feel so sad. Please remember to say goodbye to your animal if you leave him somewhere as they really miss you when you are gone.
My husband has to spend at least two minutes snuggling with two of our (five) cats before leaving for work. If he doesn't, they spend the entire day depressed as hell, even though I'm home with them the entire time. Sometimes the other cats will go up to him and ask for a goodbye snuggle as well.
My husband always calls me before he heads home from work (things have happened in the past, we do it for safety reasons), and those two cats know exactly how long it takes between my husband calling before heading home, and my husband pulling into the driveway.
If he stops for groceries or to run an errand, they start getting upset that he's taking too long to come home. If he takes more than half an hour longer than usual, they start freaking out. (One of those two cats remembers the night my husband didn't come home, but a tow truck dumped our totalled car in our driveway when we lived in Texas. Ever since then, he really freaks out if my husband takes too long to get home. I think he taught the kitten to do the same.)
Animals love their humans. And when they're extremely bonded to you, everything that effects you effects them.
Animals feel sadness. They feel happiness. They get angry. (They can also hold grudges, depending on the animal.) They get depressed. They get anxious.
Whenever I encounter humans that aren't that bonded with their animals, I feel my heart ache for their animals and even for them.
If only they knew the magic they were missing out on. And the poor animals, it feels like they have an unrequited with their humans, and it makes my heart and soul hurt so much for them.
But I am an empath. So maybe I'm just super sensitive to it? However, my husband is not an empath, and he feels the same connection with animals.
Awww! I feel badly about the night your husband didn't come home. That was probably really hard on your furbaby!
I recently posted about my little miracle dog CJ. She was missing 79 days before being found. She survived in the wild, in brutal heat, on her own for all of that time.
She wouldn't go to anyone that saw her, (I believe because she was looking for one of us). A little bit of a long story but such a beautiful reflection of God's ❤️.
She is one who, if I have to go out of town for a night or two, she whines and sits on the arm of the sofa (as it is closest to the entryway) and sulks.
It breaks my heart. Needless to say, I don't go out of town very often and when I do, I FaceTime someone at the house so I can talk to her and she can see and hear me to know I am okay.
I am very empathetic as well so it is difficult to leave.
Anyhow, I will stop rambling. Lol!

Hah! We're still kinda neighbors. I lived in El Paso for about five years. It was pretty awful. But I've driven through and stayed in hotels in Oklahoma quite a few times. Oh God, the roads through Oklahoma City...they're awful! And Tulsa...I've been there a few times. I intentionally drive the long way around if I have to to avoid going back there. My experiences with Tulsa haven't been too great, lol.
But I'm back in Missouri, where I rightfully belong.

By the way, I love your articles about food preservation. Someday, if possible, I plan on having a nice big garden and making preserves. :D

The roads in OKC are horrific for sure! There is ALWAYS construction on them and they are so rough! I hate having to go there (which is rare). Yes Tulsa is a rough place to be I have heard. it is heartbreaking what we do to ourselves and the loved ones in our lives; I have always known that animals have feelings, and anyone who has a pet will realize this sooner or later, even people who have fish in a fish tank will tell you that they react to the people in their lives!
Yes, animals definitely have feelings... at least I know for sure that dogs have feelings... I miss my dog that passed away 6 years ago, he was with me for 16 years. I still think of him everyday :(

and three german shepherds. It is amazing how they know when you are on your way home.. When I come around the corner, they are already sitting at the gate, waiting .....

I just love my furbabies! They are my therapy. Lol!
Haha! Yes, my husband gripes about the dog food prices. He is the one who is like, "We aren't getting another dog." And then we get one and he says, "Well it isn't coming in the house!". Then he lets it in the house and ends up cuddling and loving on it and talking baby talk to it. Haha! So funny!
