Daily Bread Bonus: Learning to Pray in the Holy Spirit and the Word
Hello All,
Today I decided to share with you one special experience I had last week, on my way to seeing a good old friend.
Woke up, had my morning coffee, read the newspaper, got dressed, left the house and decided to walk to the place where I had to meet my friend.
And as I was minding my own business, a homeless person grabbed my hand and asked me if I usually say a prayer before going to bed.
I instantly thought to myself "What does this man want from me?" and I answered saying a short "Yes" and then left.
What happened got me thinking about prayer and its importance in my life for the rest of the week.
I don't know why, but it triggered something inside of me.
"26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God."
Spirituality and prayer go hand in hand.
Spiritual life cannot exist without earnest prayer.
After the need for repentance, perhaps our greatest and most urgent need is to revive our prayer life.
The good news is that even at this point we are not left without help from the Holy Spirit.
Prayer draws us to God, raises us in His presence.
The prayer of faith gives us the power to live up to the abundant promises of God.
When we ask for the fulfillment of the blessings promised by Him in His Word, we are transformed.
And He can take care of all our needs, according to His riches (Philippians 4:19).
Always, true prayer and authentic spirituality have as their motivation the glory of God and have their root in His written Word.
Our spirituality must be guided by the Bible and must respect the will of God revealed in His Word.
It is the Holy Spirit who gives us the desire to seek the presence of God through prayer and to support one another in our demands.
Many prayers that may seem pious have doubtful reasons. For example, we may pray that someone's life may be spared because we do not want to remain alone.
Or pray for success in the work of God, because we have an important role in it, or to convert a man, because in this way our life will be easier.
Often our prayers revolve around our will and not around the will of God. But prayer pleasing to God is motivated by something else.
What are the two conditions for a prayer to be heard? John 15: 7
To seek God above all and to enjoy His presence is the greatest gift we can receive.
If He takes the first place in our lives, we will want to do what He wants, His thoughts will determine our desires, we will see life through His eyes, and this perspective will ennoble our prayer.
God is deeply concerned about us.
He wants us to share all our concerns, fears, desires, hopes, successes, joys, and failures.
We can talk to Him about these things as we talk to a good friend.
And we will look upon them all through His eyes.
Prayer does not change God, but it changes us, because it brings us into His presence, which transforms us.
Only prayer enables us to receive the grace, power, and presence of God in our lives.
Is there somebody who doesn't know that prayer brings us all closer to God?
Think about your life of prayer - for what, when, and why do you pray?
What does this tell you about your spiritual state and relationship with God?
What changes are required?
Think about prayer as the main way of connecting your being to God, and listening to His Voice.
Do you think that's possible? Hearing God's Voice?
I will reveal my answers to these questions in a blog post soon to come. Thank you and please come back. And remember...
Never lose faith. Godspeed.
