Aries in 3D (W.I.P)

attempt2_close.png

Last week my feed was graced with these cute dragons done by the talented Steemain @kristyglas They were a part of her zodiac series (link). I felt inspired by what I saw and requested a chance to work on a 3D version of her dragons for practice. So with a little time now spent on it I wanted to show you all what I've done so far. My hope is to capture, with in reason, her images and to have 3D printable versions for anyone that wants one (with her blessing of course) I still have a long way to go on this model but I believe when I have the general shape right I can get the others done quickly enough. So without further ado...

As you can see from the original image in the blender window the horns and tail are the most obvious issue. The tail if you look closely on my model has a clear bone ridge this isn't in the original and is an artifact of my first attempt at recreating her creature. The horns should be redone with a tighter spiral but I really enjoyed making the ribbing in the final version I'll probably split the difference in the two models just for the effect.

I was playing around with how to render out the final scene. I really enjoyed the reflective "photo realistic" gloss on the flooring but it wasn't right for the model. I still might render a few out with it just because.

I really don't have anything to say about these, I just really like how the eye rendered in these two.

First Attempt

I think this looks like a much older dragon, where the new one is much younger. I'm dedicating a couple hours to these models when I have the time. I hope you enjoy them and if you have questions or comments you know how to leave them :)

This is so adorable! :3 I'm looking forward to any updates! ^-^

Don't worry about making it exactly as in the drawing as it would be too much bother, and the balance might be off for 3D printing :)

Also we could maybe apply for the Team of Two Contest by @veryspider :D I see you've resteemed it. If you're interested ^^ (Not sure if this would qualify as my drawing is very old) I could make a new one for the contest :)

Sure! Any ideas as to what you want to do? I'm really just a glorified armature when it comes to most things but its hard to refuse a good contest.

As far as the 3D printing is concerned, the only issue would be the tail. It would be a weak spot for sure, but I wanted it to at least articulate correctly so when its in the final resting place it looks right. lol, just because I don't know what I'm doing doesn't mean I don't want to do it well.

I might have an idea :D Like a fortuneteller dragon. If that isn't right for you let me know ^^ and feel free to share any ideas. It will probably be a dragon with some usual powers xD

I'm more than fine with dragons. I'm working on a series of my origami dragons I've made over the years. So yeah I can do dragons. Thanks for the minnowsupport upvote btw.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

So without further adieu.
It should be without further ado instead of without further adieu.

I thought that looked weird. Thanks, Mr. Nazi.
