At The Devils Door (2014) - Bezil's Review

'At The Devil's Door' was one of those perfectly made horror movies, which is articulated around a synopsis already-seen, but well packaged. Despite a tight budget, the director, Nicholas McCarthy has made this movie one of the most interesting ghost-stories of his last years. Endowed with a scary atmosphere, a well-calibrated rhythm science and a history rich in twists, his first feature was a real mastery of the codes of the horrific horror film. Although, the film has it flaws which has somehow prevent it from profiling itself as a truly remarkable masterpiece.

Review: The Director, McCarthy has already proven his ability to operate on a limited budget, with one of his film ''The Pact'' generating favorable reviews from the critics. However, his second movie, At The Devil's Door had loomed again to be a clean film, perfectly lit and resolutely neat with regard to the soundscapes. The film reserves in this respect its small string of scary scenes and well articulated, failing to impose a climax as tense as desired. Everything is equally irreproachable in terms of interpretation. The two main actresses, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Naya Rivera, are both involved and perfectly credible in their respective roles. 'At The Devil's Door' is a small Sunday night movie. Built with the utmost seriousness.
Overall, its a mere hit for me. Although, it’s a Grade-B kind of BUDGET movie, but it delivers all that it needs and it works well! And somehow I found it nice and I enjoyed it! Its’ worth your money for some frights, but try and keep your expectations low.
