Electrical Safety Tips

in #teammalaysia8 years ago (edited)

Since the discovery of fire, people has never been more awed until the day they discovered electricity. Since then till today, people has been utilizing and depended so much on electricity for their everyday lives, to power up their machines, tools, appliances, devices and many more. Simply to say, people’s lives nowadays are surrounded by electricity, but they tend to forget that electricity even though are useful, can be very dangerous too.
There are so many cases and accidents that involves electricity. We often heard news about houses and buildings got burned down due to electrical fault, and some cases of injuries and death due to electrocutions. These types of accidents can be avoided if people are being educate and taught about the precautions and the correct way to handle electricity. For this post, I’m going to inform you about Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB)

EARTH LEAKAGE CIRCUIT BREAKER (ELCB)
Have you ever wondered what makes our house Electricity Distribution Box (DB) or Fuse Box sometimes turned off on its own? In electrical terms it is called “Tripped”. Usually, the most common problem that causes the trip is;

  1. Overloaded Circuit
  2. Short Circuit
  3. Ground Fault

So, when one of the above problems occurs, a mechanism inside the DB called the ELCB will trip, and therefore cut off the power supply distributions from the panel itself.

People may wonder what causes it to trip. ELCB functions as a safety apparatus that prevents further damages to all the electrical circuitry inside your house, but the most important thing is to prevent fire from happening and to save a person’s lives when they are accidentally electrocuted. Below are some images that shows how ELCBs looks like.

If you looked at the ELCB closely, there is button on it, which is called the “Trip Button”.

Normally, people with low knowledge about ELCB will never know its most important function. The trip button is used to test whether the ELBC is working and not faulty which is very, very important. As described earlier, the ELCB will trip whenever there is an occurrence of Overloaded Circuit, Short Circuit or Ground Fault. So, if the ELCB is faulty, it won’t trip and the panel will keep on sending electricity through its circuitry to our houses sockets and switches, which in turn will damages the appliances, and even electrocuted a person to death. Therefore, it is very important that the trip button is pressed at least once a week, just to make sure that the ELCB is working well.

I hope that this post proves beneficial to all of you. Kindly share this informations for others to learn and benefits from. Sharing is Caring.
