RE: Removing Dtube Delegation Makes No Sense

in OCD4 years ago

I have very mixed feelings about this. There have been many good producers that were making content for DTube, but for the longest time, they played favorites, only upvoting the people they knew and liked. I uploaded regularly, and it was hit or miss for me as to whether I received an upvote. I was off Steemit for about 2 months, and when I returned, DTube had migrated and with little warning, deleted the accounts that did not manually migrate their account. I was one of those, even though I had been a top producer on DTube for a couple of years. I tried to contact the creator for help in the Discord and was more or less told "tough shit". I didn't want to make a separate account just to have a DTube again. Annoying.

That personal story aside, I guess we will really see who is using DTube to "produce" or "get Steem attention" and who was just doing it because they could reliably get regular upvotes from the delegated power. From what I have seen, some of the top producers have created multiple accounts in order to capitalize on more upvotes. There for a while, there was a guy producing videos, which were just absolute garbage, and he had no less than 7 accounts. Heimendanger must have known about it, and yet, whoever did the upvoting, which still remains a mystery, upvoted every single one of his videos. A few of us in the Discord did some quick numbers, and that guy made at least 150k in a matter of months. He took it all and jetted out. That didn't help Steemit.

If this seems bitter, it's probably because it is, haha. I did a lot of quality work on DTube, and it didn't matter how good it was, how much time went into it, or how many people I onboarded into the Steem network, because whether or not you received compensation for your work depended on if the upvoters liked you. Straight up.

I feel bad for some of the legit creators that will feel a personal pang from lack of upvoting power, but I would rather personally give those peeps some SP than ever delegate to that app. I think Steemit can do better if we plan to rival something as powerful as YouTube.

Just my little 2 cents.

And your 2 cents matters as I had noticed certain accounts milking it a while back. They did play favorites back then and seemed to support a certain bunch. I would have thought Dtube would have more of their own stake by now as then they would not of had to rely on delegation.
Looking at their Steemworld stats it doesn't look for great reading as well as thy only have 51 000 SP and are withdrawing 91 000 Steem. The last month they have made nearly 14 000 from curation and yet they have 51 000 Steem only staked. This is not a good look for an app that had delegation in my view anyway. I probably would have taken it away earlier if I was delegating as this looks clearly like a one way street.
