Backyard Astrophotography
Here are some pictures of the night sky here in NZ that I've taken recently. Taken with a Nikon D5300 and a NEQ6 equatorial mount. On a couple I've also used an Orion 120mm refractor.
Alpha and Beta Centauri
A wider shot of the southern sky , Alpha and Beta Centauri again , the Southern Cross and some clouds for good measure ...
Same shot , but with a meteor.
Overall shot of the Southern Sky. You can start to see a bit of the dark lanes in the Milky Way by the Southern Cross in the center. To the right you can just start to see a bit of the Centauri Nebula , The Carina Nebula , and the Southern Pleiades. Also just at the top edge , left of center , the bright 'star' is Omega Centauri , a massive globular cluster. (Unfortunately half cut off in this image.)
The Lagoon Nebula. Taken with the D5300 , NEQ6 and the Orion 120mm refractor.
The Orion Nebula. This is an older shot that i took with the D5300 , NEQ6 and a 250mm Newtonian.
Good work! I really like the picture of the southern milkyway, I dont see this very often here in germany ;)
Are the last two pictures single shots? I assume you stacked a few shots together?
Cool ... thank you. And the last two are actually single shots. I can't remember the exposure time right off, but i can't take a shot more than a few minutes anyway (1 or 2 mins usually) because I'm not guiding.
Thanks for checking my post out and leaving a comment :)
Great work! Welcome to Steemit - look forward to more photography from you :) Might I also suggest writing a post introducing yourself? Do use the #introduceyourself tag.
Hey , thanks for the comment and the welcome :) . And yes , probably is a good idea to introduce myself to the group first :)
Thanks
Really stunning shots! I love the second shot especially with the clouds(?) mixed in.
