Dear Friends,

As we all know Sri Lanka was able to control the first and second COVID - 19 waves successfully with a very low death rate. But the impacts made by the pandemic are very negative. The first Sri Lankan COVID-19 patient was reported in March , 2020. At first government took all the actions to protect people such as island wide lockdowns , Airport shutdowns , Continuous PCR tests , 5000LKR monthly giveaway for families etc. All those positive actions were able to protect us from first and second COVID waves. Sri Lanka was able to limit total COVID cases to around 3000 and 13 deaths in the first wave. Government should get the full credit for that. But ... What is happening now. Now the government is thinking about the economy than the people in this third wave. It's true that our economy rate decrease from more than 3.5 due to this issue. And value of LKR depreciated with respect to USD. No one can avoid that .. my point is government should keep in their principals which they had at the start. Otherwise we will not be able to survive from the third wave.

Sri Lankan government started the vaccination process few months ago. As you can see from the above stats , only a very few percentage given the second dose. I think , not even the high risk employers like medical staff , security staff and staff facilitating the quarantine processes are not completely vaccinated. I personally do not believe Sri Lankan government will be vaccine at least 50% of the population ( Total population is 22 million ). We can't expect that from a developing country like Sri Lanka. But I highly believe , if government take the same health actions took in the first wave .. the stats will be positive again. Let's hope for the best. Stay Safe guys !

Thank you

As a student at university, I really feel sorry about today's situation that we have faced within the university. Also there is no proper quarantine process to reduce the risk here. They even do not release the pending PCR results of students. No one will take a responsible about our lives. Only we have to do is make saftey ourselves

It is right that, situation is getting worse day by day and it is about to lose control from the health sector. And the most critical issue is, whether we are ready for the upcoming situation. We all know the answer and I think I should not mention it here. I wish all will move forward in good manners. Be safe.

It is really a tragedy to convey that the Sri Lankan government is hesitating to control the ongoing pandemic. 😪

Government should pay more attention to this dilemma and need to take more precautions to regulate this prevailing situation.

Reduction of the quarantine period may also lead to increase more victims and if the government would not take more effective action to this situation, the country will be in a trouble at the near future.

If your government takes the first step this time and if it takes that step, the death toll may be lower, otherwise the death rate is more likely to increase. However, you should be safe.

Believe me. It never gets easy with COVID. We've seen the virus shred even the best economies of the First world countries. There are a lot of things that the government have to deal with, I'm not vouching for their actions but I believe the masses have a huge role to play as well. If a higher percentage of citizens stay safe from infection, there wouldn't be a need for surging cases, aiding the vaccination process to be carried out at its pace. Therefore, stay safe!

The article is very informative. The government should take more actions than this.

The situation is getting worse day by day. We have to take measures ourselves to protect from this pandemic

The government as well as the public need to think more about this these days. We need to be carefully. Stay at home. 🙏🙏
