Airbnb having an effect during Australian Open

No doubt everyone looks for savings when he plans a trip. Many companies like Airbnb have given the best opportunity for such travelers to save money. Recently similar impact was seen during the Australian Open in Melbourne where hotels had struggled to charge peak rates during the key sporting event.

Though Airbnb is not for everyone as corporate market requires hotel services including food and beverages, business centres and meeting rooms which an Airbnb can't provide but still there was only a marginal increase in rates per night for December.

Airbnb has more than 12,000 properties listed for rent in Melbourne, which shows how much impact it would had during the event. Another view is about the competition as the market had become more competitive for consumers, giving them different options in the form of rent-able properties through Airbnb. Only time will tell, if Airbnb had an impact during the season or there ware some other reasons of hitback for hotels in Melbourne during the busiest season.
