I'm taking the electronic music production Masterclass course of Deadmau5. He says: if you can't play you can draw the notes using piano roll editor in Ableton software or other similar digital audio workstation.

EDM Music Production Process

In Deadmau5's music production process, the song is formed from one melody created with few accords, after that he adds drums, bass and other instruments. It sounds simple, just create one melody from few tones and voila, the song is created. But this is exactly the hardest part in music production process. How to compose these accords, if you have no idea about music theory?
I have tried to create my first song with Ableton using the similar process to one that Deadmau5 explains in his course, but to put together right sounds can be very challenging. I was thinking it will be easer for me, if I know how to use Ableton software, but after taking the Ableton beginner course, I'm still in the same place like at the beginning.

Music Theory for Electronic Music

I think the best investment into music production learning process is to take time to understand the basics of music theory. I found an amazing course on Udemy: Music Theory for Electronic Music by Jason Allen. I have some idea about terms in music but the instructor explain everything without using a music terminology. After the course you will understand how to build chords and melodies that work together, even if you've had never experience with music theory.

My 100 Days Ableton Self-Challenge

In day 5 of my Ableton self-challenge I'm working on my first song. I have main melody, drums and bass. I still need more knowledge about Ableton software and music theory but working on that. My plan is to finish within 50 days or faster all the courses and tutorials and next 50 days fully concentrate on music creation.
