I've been needing to get back into freewriting, which is a daily practice for most poets and fiction writers, designed to loosen up and get things flowing, like stretching before exercise. Visual artists, especially those who draw or paint from life (figures, landscapes, still lives, etc) do something similar in "gesture drawings". After reading several of @poetrybyjeremy's freewrite posts, I got excited to try these again. Blue Sun

This is supposed to be paradise. And it seems to be, for the countless gigantic insects that flutter and thrum and buzz about (don't get me wrong, they're beautiful, and not in any way aggressive toward humans, just really, reeeeeally freakin' big). Also for the humanoid natives of this planet who are descended from them, and share some of their characteristics, such as, oh I don't know... beautiful shiny metallic exoskeletons that block the relentless assault of the giant blue sun's rays. But it isn't quite so perfect for us soft-bodied mammals.

Then there are the super-size days and nights (in what world are people expected to sleep 13 hours every night, and follow that up with a 25 hour workday? Oh wait, I know the answer (Me! Ooh! Pick me!) It's this one), and the bizarre diet (the giant flowers that grow here, and their fruits, thankfully provide all of the nutrition needed for a human being, including proteins and fats, and some of them are delicious, but many are decidedly not).

We've only been here a short time, and already I feel as if I'm losing my mind. The other "colonists" (ummmm... reality check, you have to be able to survive if you want to colonize anything) don't seem to be doing so hot either...
