The good worker May 3, 2024
When we were young, our parents instilled in us the importance of education, sending us off to school to broaden our horizons. The path was clear: study hard, excel in college, and securing a job would be a breeze. But as we mature, we realize we can't indefinitely rely on our parents' support. At the right juncture, we're expected to pave our own way, seeking employment to sustain ourselves.
The thrill of landing a job is undeniable, bringing with it the promise of a steady income and newfound independence. Yet, with this independence comes a cascade of responsibilities, especially as our earnings grow. Unless we're fortunate enough to be born into wealth or inherit a thriving family business, the weight of these obligations can be daunting.
Today, I'll take you through the rhythm of my workday, offering insight into how I navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that come my way.
Punctuality is a non-negotiable for me in the workplace. To ensure I'm always on time, I make it a point to arrive at least 30 minutes to an hour before my scheduled start time. This early arrival allows me to settle in and prepare for the day ahead. As I step into the office, I gather my essentials - laptop, headset, and mouse - readying myself for the tasks at hand.
Before diving into my workload, I connect to the VPN, an essential step since we collaborate closely with onshore colleagues. While remote work is an option, I prefer the structured environment of the office, especially as I typically find myself as the opener, the first to arrive in the morning.
Once connected, I launch the necessary tools for our workflow, keeping in mind the paramount importance of confidentiality when handling Protected Health Information (PHI) accounts. With everything set up, I switch my status to "meeting" as I delve into generating reports, meticulously detailing yesterday's productivity, including project progress and key metrics.
After a focused two-hour stint, I compile and send off the reports to my manager via Outlook email. Following this, I turn my attention to running the month-to-date scores or productivity metrics for the team. Initially, grappling with these numerical analyses posed a challenge, particularly when dealing with small figures, but with perseverance, I've overcome that learning curve. With each passing day, tasks that once seemed daunting gradually became second nature to me.
After completing my reporting duties and ensuring all updates are in order, I shift my attention to addressing the influx of patient emails, which tend to flood in, particularly on Mondays. While the volume decreases on other days, we remain prepared to assist patients promptly via phone calls as needed.
Navigating patient inquiries comes naturally to me, drawing from my prior experience in a different company where I focused on coordinating medication refills for cancer patients. This background has honed my ability to engage with empathy, recognizing the profound significance of each patient's journey.
The gravity of supporting individuals battling cancer underscores the importance of every medication refill. For them, adherence to their treatment regimen is not merely a recommendation but a lifeline. Bearing witness to their courage underscores our responsibility's gravity; their well-being is our foremost priority.
Handling patient calls and emails remains a constant throughout my shift, extending until the conclusion of my duties. Occasionally, I must pivot midstream, toggling my status to "meeting" to tackle additional tasks assigned by my manager.
While this shift in focus may interrupt my workflow, it's an expectation outlined in my contract for salary advancement. With increased compensation comes heightened responsibilities, a reality I embrace as part of my professional growth.
As my remuneration scales upward, so does the volume and complexity of my workload. Consequently, prioritizing tasks delegated by my manager becomes imperative, reflecting my commitment to both personal development and organizational success. Ensuring seamless teamwork and collectively meeting our metrics is a cornerstone of our approach. My daily routine at work follows a familiar pattern, becoming almost second nature over time.
Through unwavering dedication and unyielding determination, I've evolved into a more proficient professional, earning recognition through various certifications as a top-performing agent. Sharing this achievement isn't about self-promotion but about motivating others. I believe that diligent effort yields rewarding outcomes, serving as a testament to the adage: work hard and success will follow.
