Zinedine Zidane was born on 23rd June, 1972 and played as a professional footballer for the French national team, he also played club football for great teams like: Real Madrid, Juventus he was known as a magician because of his ability to create magical moments with the football. He is arguably one of the greatest people to grace the game of football. Zidane played his last match for Real Madrid on 7th may, 2006 against villareal.

After a successful footballing career Zidane still had love for the game and went into Coaching which is demands a deep understanding of the game. Being a great footballer doesn’t guarantee being a great coach. Zidane started his coaching career at castilla the development team of Real Madrid in 2014. He was part of the coaching staff that won the La Decima for Real Madrid as an assistant coach to Carlo Ancelloti.

Zidane as coach has only coached Real Madrid which is not meant for an average coach. Zidane had two spells at Madrid. I will take you through all his spells as the head coach of Real Madrid because of the situations surrounding the two spells.

FIRST SPELL
Zidane took over Real Madrid’s first team in 2016. Zidane took over after Real madrid fired Rafael Benitez after a poor start to the season. Zidane took over this team that seemed to be lacking intensity. The previous season Real Madrid went trophyless hence the sacking of Carlo Ancellotti. Zidane had a task of turning things around that season. Zinedine Zidane showed what he was made of that very season. As he guided to team to win three trophies in his first season. (UEFA champions league, UEFA super cup and the world club cup)

Zidane is the first and only Coach to win the champions league in three consecutive seasons. Incredible feet right. That’s the power of Zidane. He went on to win a total of 9 trophies in his first spell which lasted from 2016 to 2018. That is an insane record. Zidane announced his departure from the club after winning the champions league for the 3rd time in consecutive years

SECOND SPELL
Zidane had to return to the bernabeu as successive coaches who took over didn’t perform to the expectation of the club. Zidane returned to the job in March 2019. Zidane returned to the job but this time without the services of goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo. Zidane took a team that was in the state of transition but however he managed to win the La Liga Trophy that very season. We went on to win the Spanish super cup again for real madrid. But unfortunately the 2020/ 2021 season wasn’t a good one after they lost the La Liga title narrowly to their city rivals, and lost the UEFA champions league semi final to Chelsea. Zidane announced his decision to leave the team just after the Season.
