Nigeria, a country with different multi-religious practices such as the Christianity, Traditional Africa Religion(The worship of the gods and goddesses), Islamic, Judaism, Buddhism, Bahá'í Faith. Been rich, blessed with diverse history, has over 250 ethnic groups across the 36 state, each of this ethnic group has their own unique customs and traditions.

Some of this tradition is forbidden by me. I do not believe in so many tradition in my country because many traditions are very harmful, puting many people in slave, depriving their rights such as the education, social interaction, employment etc. Some of them are been affected to the point of lossing self-esteem, feel outcast which is very bad.

Can you mention at most 3 Disgusting traditions of your country that you forbid and why?

Tradition is what we all came to see and I believe that people made this tradition to exist, as such amending some of this tradition or probably taking it away can also be done by people instead of still practicing which as cause a lot of harm to the people in the country.

Some of this disgusting tradition are;

Human Sacrifice and Ritual killing: This disgusting tradition is mostly occur when a king dies. Before the king is buried, a human sacrifice will be required which normally involve a female gender who is still a virgin. She will be burried alive alongside with the king or kill her and uses her blood to perform some ritual sacrifice before the king can be lay to rest.

Traditional Marriage Rite: Mostly this tradition affect the first girl child in the family. In my dialect, we called it Awah-odiongho ye Awah- dia*: It is perform when the girls child grown up to the age of marriage. Before her bride price is been pay, a long two list to buy some goods will be given to the groom to be.

One will be for performing ritual and this one all the item will be buried in the ground and no one try to eat any of those item. This item maybe worth #300000(750 steem) or more. While the other list item bought will be for the family to consume. Once a suitors comes in to asked for the girl hand in marriage and his been told of what is involved. He can either accept to follow the procedure or go to look for wife else way. Personally I see this tradition as a big punishment to the first born because many of this ladies are old without getting married as a result of it.

Widowhood Practice: Many communities doesn't believe that a man can die naturally rather they believed that when a man dies before his wife, the wife is the one who kill him. As such, the woman will be accused, forcing her by fellow women to shave her hair, put on a certain clothes for a period of time and sometimes force to drink the wash corpes water of her late husband to prove her innocent. As a result of this evil practice, the widow go through physical, mentally and emotional abuse.

Are traditions in your country still held in high esteem, or are they fading away?

Well, the tradition is no more stronger than before due to day to day changes in the world. As the day passes, the world is advancing, people changes their ways, behavior, dealings and believes, so, some tradition are gradually fading away.

What are those occasions that demand traditions to be performed before they become legal?

• When a building is about to set up: In this occasion, the owner of the land property will do some tradition demand to the community where the land is located and to the state it belongs, from then, the property will become legal and the owner of the land property will be eligible to start up the building.

• During Marriage Rite: Before a woman is legally married, if the father or mother of the woman dies before now, there is a traditions demands that needs to be perform. The husband to be must slaughter goat for either the mother or father before any other things can be done.

Also if maybe the father of the bride to be didn't married the mother of the woman legally, tradition demands that the husband to the bride to be will do the needful but the brides family will not eat instead they will collect all the items and then uses to pay in place of the mother of the brides who was not fully married.

Share your favorite country's tradition of all time.

Football sport is my favorite country tradition. During this Christmas season that we are, football match is always organized to be competed by various villages across my community and at the end of the competition, prices will be given to the first three villages that will win.

Is always fun and exciting moment as other fun activities will also take place for the event to be more colorful. Ekpo masquerade, community fiesta day, dancing, talent show will be display during the one month tournament.
