HEAVEN COULD BE HELL - IF ALL THAT WE DO IS WATCH

WHAT IS HAPPENING BELOW.

It is often said that those who have died are looking down upon us. I suppose this gives comfort to those left behind, but for the deceased it might not be pleasant. After all, who wants to spend their eternity watching the struggles of others. Anyway, this is the idea that is behind my poem Those Left Behind. It's a little bit different, I hope you enjoy it.

Tents of Grace

Those Left Behind

Do the dead read their mail,
the letters we send
to tell them their houses
are falling apart?

And do they look down
on our roof tops,
the shingles that rot
and people who are
going insane?

Or do they all rest
in hospital tents,
tripping on morphine
that makes them forget
our eyes are still open?

wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

Oh man! The explanation really elevated this piece. I never thought of it that way. HEAVEN COULD BE HELL - IF ALL THAT WE DO IS WATCH. That's such a great hook!

I would imagine a lot of them would be rolling over their graves seeing what's happening with the world. With every forward step, humanity takes steps back. It's like we're walking in circles and we don't even know. I imagine a collective facepalm in heaven whenever they look down on us. Truly the ultimate torture.

Thanks for reading, I'm a spiritual person so I think often of Heaven, some of the descriptions of being a city of gold are kind of off-putting they seem rather tacky, and the idea of angels and harps and singing all day doesn't do much for me either. I think Heaven is a place with no sorrow or memories of the past there's lots of good fishing and all of the Juke boxes are filled up with Jimi Hendrix Tunes.

Ha! That's an awesome depiction of Heaven! I think the great thing about it is that people can have their different interpretation for it because no one would be able to confirm it for sure. I consider myself a spiritual person as well, and even though I focus more on the earthly goings-on, maybe that's why this resonates to me.

Personally, I subscribe to the idea that we are all just one energy and we recycle every time, learning from each past experience. Now, in my view, time is relative, that's why there are "old souls" hanging about.

Ha ha, based on what I know now I must not have learned much my last go around.

Perhaps you're a new one, and several people who came before you are your soul's descendants :)

Nah, if you are right I am an old who is just a slow learner.

Very deep and extremely thought-provoking! I love this. Thank you so much for sharing.

PS: If you are interested and have some spare time, I have some poetry on my blog too. :)

Thanks I'll try to check it out.

Thank you :)
