About the illustration and the poem
The image I created for Blind Eye is titled Passage. To accompany the tone of my poem I wanted it to suggest the idea of supernatural and our attraction to unanswered questions of darkness.
The poem itself was a fairly spontaneous flow of words triggered when I heard someone say, "viewer discretion" on the TV. I wasn't intending to write a dark poem, but without any guidance it's just were my mind seemed to take me.
Blind Eye
It is viewer discretion
distasteful material
but who understands
not to look
into caverns
and sinkholes
that are filled with despair
and who would believe
the insane are mere inches from joy
as they open the door into darkness.
It’s the poor man’s black teeth
that tell you don’t need to know
but a seasoned detective
whose mind has been calloused
counts every step to the basement
and looks for a suspect
a fly on the wall
or a mouse
who knows more
than it should.
But putting that aside
I will ask you
who is it that sleeps through the night
the one who examines
dark corners
looking for justice
or one
who just
closes their eyes?

Thanks, I was a little disappointed when I posted it today has the image quality deteriorated quite a bit.
I love that image. It really grabbed me, and even without any words to go with it.
Yet the poem itself layered it truly. Love the ending question.
I liked the image as well, but was disappointed with how it lost detail when posted.
Wonderful artwork! It really captured the essence of the poem. The uncertainty brought upon by the darkness, the tired mind exhausted from the travails of the day. Every line a hit, interweaving with the image to form a rich tapestry. Fantastic stuff all around!
Thanks, it is always a battle deciding which was more fun to make, the image or the poem.
Sometimes it's either, sometimes it's both. For this piece, I really feel like they struck an amazing balance.
