Defend A Controversial Topic And Win 5 STEEM

I have been trying to think of a contest idea for a while, and there is no shortage of writing contests on Steemit. Not content with running a competition that brings nothing new to the table, I decided to run a writing competition where the goal is to defend a controversial topic and earn some Steem, which will allow you to power up your account or buy yourself something shiny.

Entry Requirements

The requirements are intentionally simple.

Author a Steem post (not a comment) defending something controversial. An idea might be defending the right to wear double denim, something people have very strong opinions about. Or the right to eat a raw onion, something I am against myself.

After you have authored your post, you need to link it in a comment below this post so I can see it. If I can't see it, it doesn't count.

While not required, it would be greatly appreciated if you upvoted and resteemed this competition, so others can also have the opportunity to enter and win. Once again, this is not a requirement for entry, only if you feel like doing something nice and giving someone else the opportunity.

The Rules

Please read the following rules, I am not a strict person by any means, but all I ask is you abide by the following rules.

  • Video entries are allowed (they're technically posts). Arguably, some people are better when they're speaking opposed to writing.
  • Spell check your posts and make sure they're easy to read. I am not asking for perfection, but if there are obvious mistakes that make it hard to read, then your chances of winning are going to be reduced.
  • Put some effort into your post, one or two paragraphs will be seen as not putting any effort in.
  • Format your post. Use some spacing, if I see paragraphs with 10 sentences (or no paragraphs at all), I won't even read your post, regardless of how good it is.
  • Be original. Understandably there are some topics that will possibly attract duplicate arguments, if you see someone has already defended a topic you wanted to defend, maybe consider something else.
  • While the competition is controversial topics, please don't bring up the following topics; racism, slavery, or anything that might be seen as an attempt to defend hatred towards other persons or groups of people. Try and keep your entry lighthearted and funny. If you attempt to defend Hitler and his treatment of Jewish people, for example, instant disqualification and possibly even a flag from people in the Steemit community.
  • Only one entry per Steemit account (make it fair)
  • Competition ends in 7 days from now.

Finally

You did read the rules, right? Okay, good.

While the grand prize of 5 Steem will go to only one winner, there may be subsequent prizes for other entrants if the calibre of entries is good. Your odds of earning something are still quite high even if you don't come first.

This was an unexpectedly awesome topic you chose @mazzle I didn't see that coming. Really nice work, solid.

Thanks mate. Was fun to put together.

This is a solid first entry! Love the uniqueness of the subject you chose. So far you're the only entrant, so you're off to a great start, haha.

Haha, nice work @bec-on-the-block glad you entered. That was an enjoyable read and who knows if you're lucky you might find yourself on the receiving end of some Australian cricket team branded cricket balls. Apologies in advance though, they're a little rough around the edges. 80 grit sandpaper really does a number on a cricket ball ;)

Haha - at least I'd know it was authentic 😊

@lenifty Great entry, I like how you picked a taboo controversial subject and turned it on its head.

Not off to a good start, grammar indeed.

Spell check your posts and try and use proper grammar. Spelling is the big one here, but good grammar will win you bonus points. Just capitalise your I's and use full-stops as a bare minimum.

You do realise that capitalisation of "i" in accordance with capitis diminutio maxima reduces ones status to that of a corpse in law.

See my post Don't be Dead give yourself a Head

i will not be using upper case I when referring to ones self. i do hope this will not cause me to be disqualified by not following your first rule. :)

Haha, wow I just learned something new. If you don't use an uppercase i you won't be disqualified. I didn't actually know the back story, thanks for the cool bit of knowledge. It's not a hard rule, just basic formatting more so than anything else!

I actually removed the mention of grammar and capitalised I's. I figured it was better to just add in a rule that entries should be neat and legible instead.

Dead man talking - lol

Pineapple on pizza, Greedo shot first, Jordan is the GOAT.
I won't post though; they're all self evident.

Haha, brave mentioning pineapple on pizza @mattclarke wars have been started over much less.

Resteemed to hopefully get you more entries even though I'll be fleeing from this one like the coward I am ;D

goatsig

You're a legend thank you very much @ryivhnn

Bahaha I think I have just the topic for you. :D

Will give it some thought and put it together.

I am really looking forward to your entry, I have a feeling it's going to be good.

That depends on how you define "good". :D

Cool contest! Looking forward to reading some entrants - resteemed :)

Thanks @bec-on-the-block you're a superstar. You should enter yourself.

No worries - I might have a go at it if I get a burst of inspiration :)
