Today we are looking at packaging design! For Christmas I was given some cosmetics from Lime Crime. When I opened the box I was surprised by the effort they had put into their packaging. I don’t recall ever receiving something like this before. It really created an effect on me.

I like how they've used a hashtag in the design to remind their customers to give them free adverting on social media! Smart.

I notice that the letters of the logo look like they’re made from tube shapes. I found a tutorial on YouTube showing how to make a similar tube shape effect.

We can see that the box IS much larger than the contents. The cosmetics were mini sizes, especially for Christmas I assumed, although they are still available on the site now.

This card was included which gives a discount code.

I do think this design will be successful in generating repeat purchasing. The graphic designer really did a great job! After a while I did realise that inside the heart, the unicorn actually looks two-headed but I doubt most people even noticed or cared.

Late stage capitalism is often maligned for its flagrant disregard and in many cases, negligent and even criminal poisoning of the environment. When I first saw these avocados, I thought, is this real? Its got to be a joke! I feel sick just looking at it. I wouldn't want to eat avocados like this.

Perhaps we should challenge Lime Crime to design something smaller but just as eye-catching. I think that the cosmetics market is very competitive with several different brands able to offer high quality products. Do brands HAVE to provide interesting packaging to secure sales? I don’t know but I imagine yes. If you have two lip glosses, both as good as each other, you may, even subconsciously just pick the one that is presented in a more attractive manner. People always comment on if they like the packaging design or not in reviews so it must be important to people. Obviously I thought the packaging was very attractive but ultimately the performance of the product is more important.
