NC Senate race might be the most ridiculous in the country

There is an insane amount of money being spent on this campaign. It is second only to the amount of money being spent on the presidential election as it weighs in at nearly 100 million dollars of outside contributions. Why would a group spend that much on a Senate campaign? Well because it is considered one of the most vulnerable seats in the country at the moment.

Republican Thom Tillis currently holds the seat but won by a very narrow margin in the past and the state is considered a toss up when it comes to these sorts of things. Sometimes we vote red, sometimes we vote blue. I think it kind of says good things and perhaps free-thinking things about the state since we don't always vote one particular way, but at the same time it also makes our elections a bit more nasty and all-encompassing than you would experience in a state that always votes a particular way.

A couple of things happened yesterday that really throws a wrench into this already way too expensive campaign. Thom Tillis announced that he had contracted Covid-19 and his opponent Cal Cunningham (D) finally admitted to the fact that he had been "sexting" a campaign staffer that is not his wife (the horror!)

I don't support Democrats on a great deal of things but I also don't really care for the way that a lot of political players try to suggest that cheating on your partner somehow makes you unqualified to lead in government. I think it just shows that powerful people tend to take advantage of their position the same way that anyone has that was powerful in the past. Politicians, for the most part, are scumbag sociopaths so why on earth would it be even remotely surprising when one of them sends lewd messages to a subordinate campaign staffer?

Is it bad to cheat on your partner? Well, of course it is. Does it disqualify you from doing a job that unless you have a hole in the head you already know is filled with liars and cheaters? Probably not. It might make you really good at it.

I'm really feeling pretty terrible for the woman involved, Arlene Guzman. Much like what happened with Monica Lewinski, she is getting dragged through the mud a lot more than Cunningham is and she has gone from a rather unknown yet successful professional, to "slut" in a week. Cunningham will move on from her the same way that Bill did from Monica but Guzman's career in politics is probably done unless she can spin this some particular way which I am sure the media will not allow her to do that because they want to protect their Democrat asset. Mark my words; this is exactly what is going to happen especially if Cunningham wins, which I don't think that he will.

So we have one guy running for Senate that claims to have Covid-19 right around the time that Trump does the same thing and the guy who is contesting him is already caught up in a scandal before he even potentially takes office.

Aren't politics awesome?
