My community stopped complying at phase 3 of this writeup... what about yours?

I realize that this is just something that someone wrote online but if you look at the list in many places in the world they have already achieved all of the things on this list except for the last one. If we were to go back a year and a half and look at this list we would say "oh there is no chance this will ever happen" yet here we are!

In my community in North Carolina, we stood up to the elected leaders very early on and refused to comply and while we didn't do it in a violent sense (there were no riots) we basically told our elected officials that they were going to get their walking papers if they continue to try to limit our freedoms.

Since then, a lot of the rest of the state followed suit, but others doubled down on restrictions. We were told that our defiance was going to kill all the elderly and that the dead would be piling up in the streets. This never happened. In fact, our statistics are right in line with the rest of the state and at the moment we only have 12 people total that are hospitalized with Covid.

We did not close all of our businesses for a year, we did not enforce mask compliance, we did not pressure the community into getting vaccinated. You'll see that a lot of the community decided to do so but they did it on their own volition, not through some sort of armed coercion or government decree.

Of course, once the doom and gloom situation that the state government promised would ravage our area didn't happen we were not congratulated on a job well done (which we do not need or want) but instead, the government and the media just simply stopped talking about it. They hate it when they are wrong and I am quite certain that the governor and a lot of other officials that were lecturing us about how irresponsible we were being would probably have preferred that a bunch of us DID die.

So while the great masked masses around the country and the world continue to insist on listening to the people in charge who were taking away freedoms in the name of public safety, we refused and not only did we not die en masse, our statistics are basically the same as the rest of the state. Can anyone explain how this is possible if what we did was "wrong?"
