Problem of Deforestation

in #forest7 years ago (edited)

Forests are vital to our Earth. Trees purify our air, filter our water, prevent erosion, and act as a buffer against climate change. Over 300 million people live in forests worldwide. fog-3099200_1920.jpg

Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to utilize the land or trees.

Yet, what happens when trees are felled? Firstly, the earth is left vulnerable to soil erosion. The heavy tropical rains will carry away the rich topsoil, and the land without its topsoil will no longer be fertile. Slowly but steadily, the lush vegetation will give way to wasteland.waters-3114054_1920.jpg

Secondly, the flowing water will not only wash away the topsoil but will deposit it in the rivers. As a result, the rivers will become shallower. Consequently, floods will become frequent in the area. Thousands of people will suffer in these floods.

A major cause of deforestation is agriculture plantations. An increasing supply in demand for products such as palm oil and soybeans are driving producers to clear forests at an unnerving rate. Farmers often clear the land for cattle by using slash and burn techniques (cutting down trees and burning them). Unfortunately, they will then use the property until the soil is completely degraded and repeat the process on a new patch of woodland. Eventually, it'll reforest, but it will take many years to return to its original condition.

When forests are a distant memory, a shocking fact will hit us full force. Mankind will be thrown into a state of unimaginable suffering and agony. What I am talking about is the lack of oxygen. While cutting down a tree to add yet another piece of luxurious furniture to Man's already opulent lifestyle, people forget that they are also cutting down our supply of oxygen.

Millions of people in the world depend on forests for hunting, small-scale agriculture, gathering, and medicine. Common materials we use every day such as latex, cork, fruit, nuts, natural oils, and resins are found in the tropical forests. Deforestation disrupts the lives of millions of people. This why we ought to preserve our forest.

Orangutans, giant pandas, rhinos, and the Asian elephant are just a few of hundreds of endangered species due to deforestation. Removing trees thins the forest canopy which is meant to block sun rays during the day and holds in the heat at night. This damaging disruption leads to extreme temperature swings that are harmful to plants and animals.roe-deer-1367182_1920.jpg

As you can see, it is a vicious cycle. A change in our environment will trigger off another change which will trigger off yet another. This is why we. should keep the balance of nature. This is why we ought to preserve our forests. This is why environmentalist groups are pressurizing governments to reduce the felling of trees and the clearing of forests and to be serious about replanting forests.

In conclusion,

With the support of ordinary citizens like you and me, these will get the attention of the people in power. We can also help by planting trees. Members of this beautiful planet must be united. By preserving our forests, we are preserving ourselves.

Great post

Please follow me.

I love this.
It's all about the money.
They cut down the trees to make more buildings for businesses and such, but they fail to think about the consequences.
What happens when all of the trees are gone? No oxygen. Money can't buy oxygen..

Deforestation is not good, many things to gain from natural gift.

I watch them cut down several trees where I was staying yesterday and I wonder if my children will still meet some particular trees when they come to. This world.

Nice post
