BEASTLY TALES

THE POWER COMPANY

Dealing by phone with large corporations is challenging, to be sure.
Any of them have their own brand of frightening non-allure.
Let’s call today’s example “The Power Company” to avoid.
Censorship intervention, common sense devoid.
When calling their number, first you listen to a free ad.
Advertising the Company's services that may be had.
Following this, is the PRESS NUMBER trial,
Obediently one presses that which seems less vile!
Then the waiting really begins,
Operators must all be occupied, promulgating their spins.
At last! Something resembling a human voice.
Seemingly speaking an Asian language, but you have no choice.
One’s identity must be verified through the use of dumb questions.
The reminder that the episode will be recorded, create indigestions.
But what is the Operator trying to say?
With their language inflexions, oh what dismay,
In the end, nothing can be done,
Unless the computer says its O.K, oh, what fun!
Confused and bedazzled you wonder what occurred,
As you could only comprehend every second word!
To have operators unable to speak is quite absurd.
The Operator, unaware of any anomaly,
Asks, “Is there anything else I can do for you today?”
What a shame, that with a phone link, she cannot see your dismay!
