GET THE PITCHER

In many lands there is sloppy speech,
English language, for some, hard to teach,
Or, more correctly, hard to learn,
You hear it everywhere you turn.
A favourite is a preoccupation with jugs,
Referring to them constantly in speechy fugs,
The word “picture”, simple enough,
But for some, seemingly incredibly tough!
Easy, if the consonants you care to sound,
Only two syllables, “pic” and “ture” are found.
So, where does “Pitcher” fit into the mold?
It’s clearly enough to make one’s blood run cold!

Of course, there’s “natcha” and “strictcha” too.
Should be “nature” and “stricture” in the dictionary Who’s who!
Clearly a “pitcher” is a type of ewer,
A water Jug, if you like, tipping water to sewer.
It never would happen, if consonants were employed.
No sloppy speech, leaving one over-joyed!
Oh, we see you smirk and laugh,
As you reach for that table carafe.
And would not anyone think of their aunt?
When viewing, in motion, a pitcher plant.
A picture is supposed to be a work of art.
“Pretty as a picture”, a most pleasant start.
A pitcher can be a ewer, or a baseball player,
Pitching the ball fast, making the batter go greyer.

Theatres were once referred to as a picture house,
Never, in recollection as a pitcher house.
To the Art Gallery, there one views a picture,
Even a painting, a picture of a pitcher.
This is done freely, definitely no stricture!
It’s all so confusing, need understanding to enhance
One’s understanding of a need for consonants.
