FIRST RESPONDER

Cecil Fusspot was awaiting a bus,
When a person alongside him collapsed with much fuss.
The victim lay on the side walk inert and supine,
He looked rather ghastly, not at all fine.
Cecil wondered “What can I do?”
“What course of action, should I pursue?”
“He looks like he needs a resuscitator,”
“Lying like that, unconscious ‘til later.”
“Perhaps he needs mouth-to-mouth resuscitation?”
But, looking at his ugly mug, it gave him no elation.

He took a newspaper out of his pocket.
Rolled it up, tight and round, so you could rock it.
“I’ll use this to blow air into his chest,”
“A no contact approach is always the best!”
But, all that effort, to no avail,
Cecil couldn’t bear, at this stage, to fail.
Using a nail file he unscrewed a panel on the light pole,
Pulling out wires, “This’ll be good for his soul.”
“I’ll tickle him with these, start up his heart,”
“A known medical procedure, a very fine art!”

Applying the electric cables, nice and slow.
The body jumped up and down, and developed a glow.
A few more high voltage applications and things looked rosy,
Eyelids flickered, the patient looked less dozy.
But, never-the-less, as he didn’t want to take a chance,
Cecil telephoned 000 for an ambulance!
