BEASTLY TALES

FAIR EXCHANGE

The Smith’s had a boy who was glum.
He was glum because he was bored, and his Dad was dumb.
One day the Smith mother received a note from the school,
Announcing a Student Exchange Program,
For students who weren’t a fool!
Who did well at exams, as a rule.
Enquiries elicited an exchange program with Albania.
The Smith boy would go there to get brainier,
Just for six months, it should be understood.
The foreign experience would do him much good!
“Albania”, shouted Mr Smith aghast, with sighs,
“You mean white skin, hair and pink eyes?”
Mr Smith had confused Albania with Albino’s now.
Such misconception could cause an international row!
The wrong end of the stick, to cause such a schism,
To think that exchange students, had albinism.

Yes, the Smith boy was off to Gjirocaster,
In Albania, as arranged by the Head Master.
The Albanian exchange student, by the name of Lesh,
Was sound of mind, and brown of flesh.
He spoke five languages, was top of his form.
Anything the Smiths could do, he’d out perform.
Albania used to be a Socialist People’s Republic.
So Lesh, although very smart,
Was also indoctrinated in the Communist’s art!
He referred to Mr Smith as “Comrade Smith!”
So annoying was this, it got Mr Smith in a miff!
He even asked Mr Smith if he was proletariat class?
Mr Smith curtly told him not to be such a smart ass!
Six months pass by, excruciatingly slow,
“My boy’s coming back!” Mr Smith did loudly crow!
