ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY

The Real Estate Agent enquired as to her shopping habits.
She snorted in outrage, “I have no shocking habits.”
“In the past I’ve, as a pet, kept a rabbit”
“A custom I keep discreet, don’t blab it.”
Hard of hearing she was, must have misheard.
Her reaction, indeed, did seem quite absurd.

Penelope Inane, for that was her name,
Was looking for a house in the village of Quame.
She was after a bungalow, semi-detached,
With plenty of character, but definitely not thatched.
“I don’t like things to live in my roof.”
“And rustle at night when I should be aloof!”
“I do want a garden for my gardening habits,”
“And a hutch, where I can keep my rabbits”
“Some views would be welcome, a bonus!”
“And a telephone, in case someone might phone us.”
“The house must be quite near to a Pub,”
“And shops, where one might purchase some grub.”
“I’d like to be part of the local community.”
“To feel secure, no risk to impunity.”
“I’d prefer there to be a community hall,”
“Even if they don’t have an annual ball.”
“I’d like to join an Amateur Dramatic Society.”
“Particularly if they don’t insist on sobriety!”

“A Barn Conversion would also be nice,”
“Just so long as it is free from mice.”
“A church conversion could also fit the bill!”
“Standing alone, and proud, on top of a hill.”
“But I should point out, that it may be a deal breaker,”
“If the church in question, had once been Quaker!”
“And we have talked about the price,”
“Not too high, it’s not very nice!”
