My DIY TeePee Nappy Cake

We have a baby boom in our family. There is no other way to describe it - there are babies everywhere and I am off to my second baby shower in as many months with my sister in law this weekend.

I feel like I should say this nappy cake took roughly 2 months to make on account of things coming from China taking forever. It's our family's joint present so I had to make it look decent and REPRESENT the fam, if you know what I mean.

When I pitched the vision to my sister in laws I did say it was going to be taller than me... and it's not too far off LOL I am actually concerned about it fitting in the car..

The Cake

1 box Huggies Newborn Nappies, 1.5 box Huggies Toddler Nappies, 4m x 5.5cm Hessian Ribbon, Safety Pins, Rubber Bands of all sizes, paper towel roll and a round cake tin. I didn't have a cake tin but I had a round hat box instead - so basically anything with a round outside.

The Tee Pee

3x Wooden Rods from Bunnings, 120cm x 120cm Swaddle Blanket, Rubber bands

Decoration

Wooden deer cut outs, 60cm Dreamcatcher, 10m Leaf ribbon, Feathers

.. and then some

The idea was we spend about $60 each - which would have been perfect if I wasn't all clucky and the moment I got to the baby clothes section its like my uterus took over and did the shopping. I wasn't the only one either so I recycled one of my LUSH boxes by spray painting it blue to store all the clothes and bibs and socks etc.

I wish I still had my "work in progress" pictures so I can write detailed instructions. It's actually not hard to make as long as you have rubber bands. That cardboard roll is also important, it helps keep the shape together in it's early stage before it's got a bazillion rubber bands holding it all together :D
