Mum Blog : Let's talk about breastfeeding

I have spent the whole day watching breastfeeding videos on YouTube.

Before I go any further I just want to comment on how women's filters seem to disappear when talking about feeding their babies, breastfeeding, boobs and the like.

I'm not new to breastfeeding. I did it with Bub 1 eons ago and found it to be punishing and only stuck with it for 6 months. This time around I'd like to do it as long as possible but since the "punishing" part has remained with me through the years I'm trying to prepare myself for the future by going down the expressing route.

Expressing would also mean bub will be fed by Hubby giving them both much needed bonding time and me sleep and rest.

Last weekend we made a point to go to my new fave store Baby Bunnings (Baby Bunting) so we could layby bub's co-sleeper and the very pricey Medela Swing breast pump while the sale was still on.

The sale ends this weekend which means if I wanted to switch brands I had to figure that out now. Since I changed my mind about the Unicorn cot theme last night, only because Hubby went to Baby Bunnings on his own yesterday and got the cot set HE wanted and I'll be going with the boho elephant set that I wanted ~ I figured I might as well give the pump another look over.

Which brings me to today.

The Medela Swing pump gets a lot of mixed reviews. Some love it, some hate it, but all bring up the price tag.

As you can see, even with $70 off it's still pretty pricey!

Hubby did comment on the price and he did sort of mention the manual pump and at the time I was like.

But after today and all them videos I'm seriously considering getting a manual pump and a haakaa.

From my understanding. Basically you feed the baby on one boob then slap the haakaa on the other boob to trick your body into thinking you're feeding two babies.

Pumping with two Haakaas

What really sold me was the two for one deal. Feeding bub and building up the milk stash at the same time. Honestly I was considering the same thing but I was thinking have the electric pump on one boob while bub was feeding.

But I like the idea of the haakaa and love how it seems more "natural" than the electric pump.

So it looks like I'll be taking the Medela Swing Pump off the layby list and I'll be getting a Haakaa and maybe even the Medela Harmony (Manual Pump).

Ladies!! Any thoughts? Personal recommendations or tips on the subject?
