FITBIT Alta vs Flex 2

After spending most of my first trimester in bed and seeing all the @actifit posts I've decided that perhaps now that I'm only going through "on and off sickness" as opposed to "all day sickness" it's time I tried to get my body back on track.

Cos I ain't kidding you guys. I feel heavy and bogged down and have gained a few kilos since my 4 week weigh in.... If you're wondering at 10 weeks bub is the size of a date and weighs approximately 4 grams.....

I went ahead and downloaded the @actifit app yesterday and noticed Fitbit in the settings and decided maybe it's not such a bad idea to get one.

I have a Samsung Note 8. I do everything on it, it's amazing, I love it, but it's chunky and I often don't carry it around, especially not while I'm home which is pretty much where the fitbits come in.

Since I'm pretty much on lockdown (as in Hubby won't let me go walkies or catch public transport on my own) and the gardening is not an option until it's no longer looking like a jungle so my physical activities are limited.

We've been looking to buy a second hand elliptical exercise machine to help with the situation and when that happens, I can imagine my phone being more of a hindrance than help but a fitbit device seems perfectly suitable....

You may have noticed I'm more interested in the slim trackers. I figured that's all I really need anyway, I don't want or need the fancy bells and whistles of seeing the text on the screen. I purely want this for it's tracking capabilities and that's all. Plus these things are expensive!! I had no idea how pricey they were until I started looking.

As per my custom whenever I shop, I like to do a bit of research and price comparison before I take the plunge. I also weigh in buying second hand to buying brand new because often there's some great bargains to be found on gumtree or Facebook marketplace, and really I prefer my money to go to Mum and Dad sellers as much as possible.

For comparisson purposes I decided to go with the Runnerclick's reviews because they do a great job with the run downs.

Fitbit Alta

Full Runnerclick Alta review here

Lowest Brand New Price:

$88 from Officeworks

Shipping:

$0 pick up in store available

Notes:

Obviously it's brand new in box, never been opened etc. There's also the convenience of having a physical store to return it too if the product is faulty and I'm assuming there will be warranty included.

Lowest Second Hand Price:

$54 from FB Marketplace

Shipping:

approx $10

Notes:

Claims to be brand new with box, never been used but has been opened.

Fitbit Flex 2

Full Runnerclick Flex 2 review here

Lowest Brand New Price:

$49 from Target

Shipping:

$0 pick up in store available

Notes:

Again, it's brand new in box, never been opened etc. There's also the convenience of having a physical store to return it too if the product is faulty and I'm assuming there will be warranty included.

Lowest Second Hand Price:

$35 from FB Marketplace

Shipping:

$0 pick up available.

Notes:

Has been opened and used but still has the box and everything that came with it. However pick up is problematic and is limited to 9am to 1pm and seller will not post. And I'm assuming no returns and no warranty available.

Final Thoughts

SOLD!!! On the Flex 2!!!

With only $15 difference between brand new (and all the peace of mind that comes with brand new) and second hand, PLUS it's simple and sleek functionality and design, I really feel this is the fitbit for me.

Not gonna lie, the sexy pendant and bracelet options are definitely sellers.

As for the Alta I really don't need the screen, especially if I'm gonna have to keep tapping it hoping it actually switches to the next screen.

I also don't need the notifications as I ignore and mute those on my phone anyway. I'll get to people when I get to people.

Another plus for the Flex 2 is it's waterproof. Not that I swim, but at least I don't need to worry if I get it wet and cleaning it will definitely be easier.

What do you guys think?

Do you have a fitbit? If you do, which one and do you use it or do you think it's a waste of time?

Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Decided to buy everyone Fitbits for Christmas, me and kids have Charge 3s (pixie actually wanted it the most and now won't wear it much, brat XD though she'd probably still be wearing it if it was an Apple watch which we both orignally coveted but that price tag) and JJ has a Versa. Expensive Christmas x_x but the step comps are entertaining (when the kids remember to sync theirs because it doesn't always background sync on any os regardless of what the settings are XD).

Got the Charge 3s because I wanted the watches, needed the sleep tracking for youngest (because it's a problem for him and unsurprisingly turned out to be an issue for me too XD) and absolutely needed the waterproofness (as proven a week or so after getting them when we went to the beach with mother in law and cousin and Cub plunged into the water and merrily splashed around for 5min, then asked me if the Fitbits were waterproof XD)

Have fun with the new toy :)

Dayumn!! Was a good Chrissy then 😉

Waterproof is a great feature for sure, if anything just for peace of mind cos you never know.

Did it eventually help you get your sleep on track and do you still use your fitbit?

Btw good to know about the sync. Gotta remember that so my actifit report card is spot on.

Yep still using it. I did get back on track for a bit but have fallen off the rails again x_x

It's easy enough to sync it once a day before or after you do something you'd be doing on your phone anyway :) I do the food and water logging thing on mine as well (and found out I don't eat or drink enough x_x so that was helpful) so it syncs several times a day XD

Woo go girl! I did the Fitbit kinda thing too when preggers!! But I got a jawbone and when I gave birth and had to feed him it hurt my wrist so I couldn’t use it anymore!

Oooo looked up jawbone. Some looked sexy as! But they went out of business? 😱😪 If it hurts you it's not worth it hun.

Another reason I like the flex 2 is cos I can have it as a necklace/lariat.

Are you jumping back on the fitness tracker bandwagon?

Yeh it was quite a pretty bangle! But the metal clasp gave me wrist problems when I had to breastfeed.
Haha I have lost my hubbys fitbit Alta so sad when it happened but that was pretty nice too. I also have an Apple Watch that I’ve stopped using because of co-sleeping. But maybe should be more ok now haha..

I thought you would have had the pretty bangle 😉 I saw them and was like ooooooooo 🤤

Howd you lose the Alta? Hey good news is they're on clearance at Officeworks atm, just sayin 😉

Would the apple watch work with actifit?

Posted using Partiko Android

Ooh.. hehe
I lost the Alta because the clasp isn’t very good at keeping it on so I suspect when I took off a jumper it fell off and I didn’t know where it was I dropped it.

Hmm I haven’t checked whether it would work. But I know my iPhone works with it haha
