Foux – Boréal EP

Foux delves into a playful surrealism on Boréal EP’s tender tones. The childlike sense of wonder that informs the entirety of the collection gives it a glowing, welcoming aura. Melodies glisten while they rush by in bright beautiful blurs of sound. Effortlessly combining elements of dance, chillwave, ambient and hypnagogic pop into a swirling whole the entire collection embarks on a mystical journey. At times the laid-back mellowed grooves recall the similarly focused work of Neon Indian. Layer upon layer of sound is applied in a painterly fashion while the songs soar up into the sky with such determination.

Disembodied vocals come into the fray and set the tone with the breezy opener “Intro (Down on the Sea)”. Slinky rhythms propel the blissful “Boo” forward, with crisp percussion helping to frame the entirety of the piece. A sample rests at the very heart of the graceful “Green Mist” with the entire track transforming into a psychedelic swirl, one that focuses on the importance of togetherness. By far the highlight of the collection “Song for Boul” feels so satisfying, as it bursts forth with vivid neon-hued color. Triumphant keyboards rest at the very heart of the skittering beats of “Dancing Lights”. Infinitely satisfying with a steel drum added for flair the closing “Aurora” perfectly closes out the collection.

Sculpting a perfect sort of thoughtful sound, yet one that feels so celebratory, Foux’s “Boréal EP” embodies a youthful sense of optimism with his graceful grooves.
