Transportation - Wings vs Wheels
I thought it would be interesting if I did a ''WHAT IF'' just to broaden your perspective.
We often find ourselves being disappointed with our automobile / vehicle when a carefully designed engineered machine decides to give up the ghost and leave you stranded on the side of the road.
What if - Cars underwent the same precautionary standards and annual maintenance as currently implemented by general aviation?

General aviation aircraft undergo the following in terms of mechanical worthiness checks to ensure its proper functionality and safety. Note each country has its own regulation and minimum maintenance recommendations, but in essence they are close to the operating hours outlined below.
Daily or preflight inspection the aircraft
Walk around for any visible signs of defect/damage to the airframe, and powerplant checked for oil leaks.
Preventative maintenance every 25 hours of operating time
Minor service that would include visible inspection of airframe and powerplant and an oil change.
100 hours of operating time
Major service, detailed inspection on airframe and major service on powerplant.
Annual inspection
Major service, removal of airframe panels for detailed inspection for fatigue or stress fractures.
2000 hour overhaul
Basically replacing the power plant with a new one.

Daily
The equivalent in vehicle maintenance would be to do a walk around the car for any visible signs of defect or damage, tyre inflation, lights and indicator functionality verified etc. every time before you drive.
Weekly
Then every week to do a minor service on your vehicle that includes an oil change and visible inspection of the general condition.
Monthly
Every month you will need to do a major service, with a detailed inspection of all mechanical parts for signs of defect or damage, you will need to change the oil, spark plugs, filters etc.
Annually
Then every twelve months you will strip the car of its body panels to inspect the frame for any signs of fatigue or stress fractures. The same maintenance for a major service apply but it has to be certified by the brand service technician.
Bi-annually
Strip the vehicle down to its chassis, replace all worn or defective parts, replace the body panels with new ones, replace the engine with a new one, install new tyres etc.
If such level of care is taken with your vehicle, you would never be disappointed in your mechanical marvel no matter the age, as most general aviation aircraft are more than twenty years old and still going.
