The Importance of Self-Care
When you decide to take care of yourself, you must consider the quality of life you are leaving behind for those who depend on you. When someone is so close to you emotionally and financially, it can be devastating to realize that you simply do not have the time or energy to provide the best care possible. If this describes you currently, you should seriously reevaluate your priorities.
There is nothing more important than taking care of yourself. After all, you were created for a reason. You were made to be a physical body and you were designed for procreation. The purpose of life is procreation and when that purpose is taken for granted, void forms in the heart that will cause misery and pain in your life. Happiness comes from within.
How can you take care of yourself then help others? The answer is simple. You must begin to identify your needs, both physical and emotional, and seek to meet them. Many people believe that self-care means spending money on themselves, but that is simply not true.
Self-care does not mean buying new clothes or eating out at fancy restaurants. It does not even mean that you need to work a little more than you already do. All it means is that you are taking the time to listen to your own body and to care for yourself. In addition, you are not procrastinating. Procrastination, while nice in theory, rarely gets done. By making time for yourself each day, you are putting energy into building up your resources for the day and helping others as well.
While self-care does not mean that you have to spend all of your free time in the library or at the gym, you do have to find balance in your life. When you give yourself the proper care, you will be able to get things done. If you put yourself first all of the time, you will be easily distracted by the need to care for others. As a result, you can never get anything accomplished because you are sidetracked. On the other hand, if you focus on yourself, then you will be motivated to make sure that everyone gets what they want from your job.
One of the great things about self-care is that it is not time consuming. If you sit down for a 15-minute workout in the morning and another in the evening, you will be able to care for yourself and to help others. When you give this kind of attention to your body and your mind, you will be surprised at how your day goes. Not only will you feel better, but you will actually look better too!
Take a break from time to time, but do it regularly. If you spend most of your free time at work, consider setting aside one hour or so to just take care of yourself. At the very least, do this every single night. You will soon notice that this makes you much more relaxed. When you are relaxed, you are more likely to be a great team player, which means that you will be more productive and have a higher chance of succeeding in the job that you are trying to get.
As you can see, self-care is about much more than simply helping others. In fact, when you are successful at being self-care, you will also succeed at helping others. That is why it is so important to put a lot of thought into what you do. It is not enough to just want to help others, but to do so successfully.
