Have you ever wondered if self-care is a priority for your overall happiness? It seems that most of us work far too hard to be happy. In this fast paced world, we sometimes forget that true happiness comes from within and not without. One of the best things about self-care is that it's easy and gentle. It doesn't require a lot of sacrifice and it allows you time to relax and decompress. Here are a few things that make self-care a priority for your happiness:


Set goals. If self-care is part of your overall happiness, it means you're making time for yourself every day. You know when you've reached a goal and you can look back at all of the good and the beauty in your life. By setting goals, you're giving yourself permission to be at peace with yourself and to look forward to what's next.

Write goals. Your goals give you something to work toward each day. They also remind you what your life is like, what you want it to be like and how hard you've worked to get there. When you write down your goals and review them on a regular basis, you reinforce the fact that your happiness comes from within, not outside.

Take time for yourself. If self-care is your priority for your overall happiness, it's time to give yourself some well deserved time to yourself. Too often, people work long hours and burn out before they get the chance to reconnect with who they are and what they want out of life. If you find time to recharge and to spend some time with yourself, you'll find more happiness and clarity.

Set and achieve goals. You need to know where you're headed. Write down your short-term and long-term goals and write down the tasks you need to do in order to achieve them. Identify any goals that are out of reach or that will take a lot of work or money before you can achieve them. Keep your goals written, so you won't forget about them and you won't become discouraged if you don't see immediate results.

Join a mastermind group. You might think this is a selfish act, but many of us need help with our lives and we often benefit from having another set of eyes looking over our plans. If you belong to a church or other spiritual organization, look for a mastermind group. These groups give you a support system that can help you move through the ups and downs of life when times are tough. It can also help you take small steps to making your dreams come true.

Give yourself some well-deserved attention. The quality of our lives is our own responsibility. Many women fall into the trap of believing they can take care of themselves simply because they feel they don't need others to help them. Taking care of yourself goes beyond just eating properly and exercising. When you allow yourself to focus on yourself, you become more confident and self-aware.

This list is only a few suggestions. In most cases, it doesn't require much effort on your part to make time for yourself every day. Reading self-help books or attending seminars on self-care will also help you stay on task and on track with your self-improvement goals.
