How to Stand Your Ground When You Think in Advance

in #motivation3 years ago

When we disagree with another person, it is often because we feel in our hearts that what they are saying is wrong and we simply cannot take a strong position against it. We may be feeling threatened by their point of view, our fears may be so powerful that we feel the need to argue back. We know that when we argue with someone it will only end in a heated debate and we will lose our respect for them. So sometimes it is better not to stand your ground but rather to try to find some middle ground where you can both get what you want without threatening each other.

When standing your ground, you need to be confident in your opinion and know that if you are right you will not have to worry about being wrong. When you think in terms of arguments and confrontation, you should know that the person who is giving you advice or opinion may not be in your best interest at the moment. You need to look at this from the other person's perspective. They may be feeling frustrated or threatened. Their emotions and position are telling them that it would be best to try and find a middle ground where they can express their feelings and thoughts without you getting in their way.

Standing your ground when you think in terms of confrontational situations does not mean blocking the opportunity for improvement. Sometimes people need to improve on a particular part of their behavior or perspective. Sometimes a particular approach to a problem has not been working and needs to be changed. By standing your ground you are allowing the opportunity to occur, which could make a positive difference.

There are some situations where standing your ground is better than trying to find a compromise. If you are at a loss as to how to resolve a particular situation you should stand your ground. This does not mean that you should never discuss ideas or opinions with others. However, you must take into consideration that if you simply hold your ground without negotiation you may lose the opportunity for improvement. While you may feel that you are doing the right thing, you may be making a mistake by not negotiating.

If you feel that you are being pressured into doing something you do not agree with or believe in you should go ahead and take a stand. You should not allow yourself to be bullied into compromising your beliefs or actions. No one likes to be told what to do or what to believe and it is better to stay strong and stand your ground. Otherwise you will likely cave in and allow the situation to escalate and worsen rather than solving the problem.

When you have taken a stand your goal is to stick to your guns and not wavering or changing your mind. As time goes on it is possible that other people are going to respect your point of view. In order to change people's minds, you are going to have to communicate with them. It may be helpful to explain your opinion to them and then tell them why you are going to stand up for what you believe in.

The key to standing your ground is to not allow pressure to bring you down. If someone is bothering you in a situation you are in, just let them know that you are not going to take any of their crap. If they continue to bother you in the situation, just walk away and find someone else to talk to. This person may be able to help you solve the issue. If not you may need to step into the situation again later in the day.

If you are in a business situation where there are issues, just stand your ground. There may come a time when you are going to have to deal with a real person. If you try to reason with them, they may not listen and may push harder. It is best to just say that you will not discuss the situation with them unless they will apologize. If they do not apologize, you should not have to continue the conversation.
