Honesty Is Key in Keeping Your Word
It is easy to let your words speak for you when you keep your word. However, maintaining your word can be a very difficult task. When you keep your word, your partner will naturally expect you to keep your word. Your word is usually your bond to them. Following through on your commitments and keeping your word often helps to strengthen the bond that you have with your partner.
Keep your word, because it keeps everyone accountable. Keeping your word to your partner is more than just a promise - it is a way of life. If you can't live up to the promise that you made then it doesn't matter how much you talk about it or what you write in your diaries. The only person that matters is yourself.
The reason that keeping a word is so important is because your words become your habits and your subconscious mind believes everything that you say. When you keep a promise, your unconscious mind believes that you are able to keep commitments. The reason for this is because your words are engraved into your unconscious mind from your earliest childhood memories. As your conscious mind grows, these memories begin to fade away as you go through life.
This is why you need to take your commitments seriously. Maintaining your word requires integrity. Integrity is what makes a person worthy of trust. Integrity is what makes one able to see past the surface and work with others to reach a common goal. Integrity also means not stepping over the line of what is right or wrong. You must remember that there is a difference between respecting other people's rights and working to uphold your own integrity.
For example, if you keep a word to yourself but not to your partner or friends, then you have violated your word. However, if you hold a word to yourself but not to your family, then you have not violated your word at all. Therefore, integrity is a huge part of keeping commitments to yourself and others. One way to foster maintaining integrity is to tell yourself the consequences of what you are doing every time you fail to live up to your word. For example, if you hurt someone or broke a promise, you must immediately own up to your mistake and tell the other person or your family about it.
By owning up to your mistakes, you show yourself to be honest and you also become more credible. This credibility goes a long way in maintaining integrity. If you are careful and do not lie or misrepresent yourself, then your word will always keep you grounded. When integrity is well balanced and maintained, then it is easy to stay on track and do what you must do to achieve your goals.
When keeping a word, it is important to always remember that others can also take your word. When others feel bad about your words, then you should feel bad too because you have let them down. Keep in mind that people can say negative things about you just because they do not understand you have failed to fulfill your promise. There are times when failure to keep commitments can make you feel bad, but remember that you can always fix whatever is wrong by simply committing to do better the next time. This is the only way that you can effectively avoid failing in keeping commitments.
Overall, honesty is an important principle to live by when keeping a word. If you do not maintain integrity with words, then you are not living up to the expectations of those you say things to. Keep in mind that keeping commitments involves both words and actions. You can do the right thing by keeping a word and showing your commitment by following through.
